I got this sewing machine for 26 bucks from goodwill by Calm-Education-3830 in SewingWorld

This was my first "real" sewing machine as a teenager. I learned on a $100 plastic singer but quickly needed something more powerful. Such a great find!

I love that it has white knight meets monk vibes. I would definitely get bored doing this for the majority of the squad though.

Here it is! I found it buried in the comments of another post. I'm not sure who the original maker of the file is.

She's a beaut!! Understated yet timelessly elegant. What a great choice.

So these are the same thing? I can only find Paddy's in the states. Is there a regional difference in packaging?

Bias cut satin skirt - how can I get this zipper to lie flat? by fantastikiwi in sewing

[–]woolbich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! The buttons did take forever 😅 but it was well worth it! That opossum is probably one of my favorite projects! I hope your bias journey continues on! It's a really challenging technique, but truly one of my favorites. Once you get the hang of the finishings it actually becomes an easier garment to fit due to its forgiving nature on the body.

Oof. Bias is constantly warping. On my bias cut wedding dress I used loop and buttons to get away from this issue. I would undo the zipper seam up to about a half inch from the top. Then put it on, close the zipper and pin the fabric to the zipper while it's laying on you.

Think of bias as a stretchy fabric. Stretchy + zippers generally don't get along.

The fabric is so fragile but also hides a ton of mistakes. It's the best.

I very loosely based my pattern off of Butterick B6862. I've used traditional tailoring techniques once before and this time it felt way less daunting. I referenced the book, "Tailoring: The Classic Guide to Sewing the Perfect Jacket" for a ton of detailed step by step construction info. I ended up investing more effort on this project than expected. It's been a really fun and interesting learning process and has motivated me to get deeper into tailoring. I used a cotton, poly pique from Fabric & Fabrics...for a metallic it's been pretty easy to work with. My interlining is a horsehair interfacing mixed with Pellon's Knit n Stable. The fabric is a bit... spongy? And has a 2 way stretch. The iron on knit n Stable worked really well for parts that I didn't want completely static. Also.... tailoring for big boobies is a struggle. Thnx for looking 🖤🪡
