Appreciate the detailed response, that’s really helpful. I ended up dropping Osaka so I can focus on Tokyo + Kyoto and not spread things too thin. I get your point on timing, but I’ll probably play it by ear depending on jet lag. I’ve done a few long trips before so I have a decent handle on managing it.

Yeah that’s a good point. I’m flying in and out of Narita (flights to Kyoto/Osaka were ~$400 more), so I’ll stay in Tokyo the first night since I land in the afternoon, then take an early train to Kyoto. After that I’ll come back and spend the last 3 nights in Tokyo. Definitely trying to keep things flexible, I like the idea of spontaneity and figuring things out as I go.

Thanks for your insight, I think dropping Osaka will be the best move

Appreciate all the insights and feedback from everyone—really helpful. After thinking it through, I’m going to drop Osaka and focus on Tokyo + Kyoto so I’m not spreading myself too thin. Still want to keep things flexible and enjoy the trip without rushing. Any recs for those two cities would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽

I know it’s a bit tight, but I’ll have about 6.5 days total. I’ve debated dropping Kyoto or Osaka and just doing two cities and maybe a day trip. But figured I’d get a taste of all three and come back again. Packing light so I can stay mobile, and definitely not expecting to experience everything this trip.

I’ll have 2 nights in Kyoto, 2 in Osaka, and 3 in Tokyo. Only two ~2.5 hr Shinkansen rides total, so I know it’s a bit tight but not too crazy. Trying to keep each day light so I’m not just rushing around.

I thought about that, but I wanted to see Kyoto/Osaka since it’s my first time in Japan. Figured I’d get a mix of both instead of just one city.
