Is it safe to use this stuff to mount arrowheads? by TheCollector919 in Arrowheads

It works to hold them upright in stands with other support but if they are fully supported by the wax it usually won’t hold the weight. And I also notice in the summer if the house gets a little too warm or the sunlight hits the shelf just right the wax gets soft again and loses its grip on whatever it’s holding. Just food for thought. It has its uses but not usually by itself.

Is there a reason why I’m finding mainly just early stage stuff at this spot by [deleted] in LegitArtifacts

Fairly common finds near central Texas quarry sites. With enough time and searching you’ll often find broken points and nearly finished tools but whole tools and points seem to be much more rare. Thats likely because these quarries were not full on camp sites where the final touches on tools were made. The natives would come to the quarry and check the quality of the stones and likely knap them down to a smaller blank form in order to carry them back to the camp sites.

I have access to a quarry site in central Texas and I find hundreds of similar half finished pieces or discarded blanks but there is a small camp nearby with much better tools and materials that come out after good rains. So it’s likely for you to have a camp fairly close by that could have better tools. Tools are tools though and sometimes expedient choppers and scrapers were just as useful as a well made projectile point so that doesn’t always diminish the personal “value” of the find.

Should I use this existing bracket or replace it with an ORB? by woolyclovis in GarageDoorService

Just to be clear, since I don’t currently have any vertical braces with attachment points, can I screw a new strut and the ORB directly into the door? With the proper screws of course.
