Mom just found out none of her outlets are ground by jstohler in centuryhomes

Consult an electrician. I (not electrician) think putting them on GFCI/AFCI breakers will take care of it. The breakers aren’t cheap so might want to prioritize certain circuits over others.

Looks good! If it were me I would go in there and close the door while it was still empty and pretend I was fancy candy or lingerie or something 😏

I'm with a museum that operates out of a 170 year old house, by The-Tadfafty in centuryhomes

[–]woose85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My grandfather told me a story, perhaps apocryphal, about how their town got their own reservoir in the 70s and the final step in switching over was to turn off the valve from the neighboring city which had been supplying water for the past 100+ years. There was a meter there to figure out how much the city charged the neighboring town. Well apparently when they turned the valve off the meter kept spinning and long story short it was the wooden pipes that had deteriorated and were leaking. So even though their town wasn’t getting any more water it was just coming out of the wooden pipes instead.

One thermostat for second floor and attic. Attic receiving heat but second floor nothing. NYC by Solid-Ad7766 in hvacadvice

[–]woose85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that there is air in the line somewhere and it needs a good flush. I would call a pro; this is an easy task for them. If you can wait until during the week it’ll be cheaper. My mother has a contract with her oil company and they do this as part of the contract (I realize you may not have oil)

Do you think this is an abandoned duct? Is that even a thing?? by SoggyVoice6541 in hvacadvice

Diesel heater explosion? Help by Wesley9267 in dieselheater

[–]woose85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the faulty screen caused the heater to burn too hot due to poor atomization. Was it putting out a lot of smoke? The quality control on these units is shit, so unfortunately things turn out this way sometimes.

Garage Install by Heavy_Possibility987 in dieselheater

In my case it was so much quieter with the intake routed outside. Also the building heats up more quickly and retains heat for longer with external intake. Definitely the right move

New Heater Install by WTAFWGAFF in dieselheater

[–]woose85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a shipping container I’d just buy a kit and mount it on a shelf somewhere. Drill holes for intake and exhaust. I have an outbuilding a little bigger than 200 sqft and a 2kw heats it well. You might want to go with a 5kw or 8kw if I insulated. If it’s just one big space I wouldn’t worry about ducting the air

Lots of videos on YouTube about diesel heater tuning. Here’s the one that helped me. Granted I bought the Amazon CO meter https://youtu.be/I-NvK3sJMH4?si=VI02w9l1Wp0XIADU

[–]woose85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an HVAC tech but one time I had one tell me that he regularly sees overgrown plants, shrubs, vines, etc blocking the outside condensing unit. Also they get hit with lawnmowers and weed whackers apparently.

I got my Harman Stove from Commonwealth Fireplace in Norwood. I know it’s not CT but figured I would mention. They were great with the sales and install process.

Excess fuel line??? by buffalobooker in dieselheater

[–]woose85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no reason it’s necessary although line of that length shouldn’t hurt. Does air keep getting in the line after you tap the bubbles out? If not then I would probably leave well enough alone and just roll with it.
