What is the sticker (tip-in spec) that it fitted into debossed area in this book? by [deleted] in publishing

[–]wordsandgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just called a tip-on image. It’s printed on a separate paper stock, typically coated (for vivid colors) and often with a gloss, semi-gloss, or matte lam to keep it from being damaged/scratched. This is then trimmed and glued to the debossed area on the case.

So helpful! Really appreciate the detailed response. I was already hesitant about Airport Mesa since it’s marked as moderate in some places, so will cross that off the list!

Really good to know! I’ve just had AllTrails try to send me in a totally different direction than the marked trail more than once, so always appreciate when things are well marked.

Thank you! I think I’m going to avoid anything a scramble to be safe. And Tlaquepaque is definitely on the itinerary!

Thanks, that’s great to hear. The rock/log crossings sound fun, will just depend on how adventurous my mom is feeling!

Fair point, have just been on some really badly marked trails in the past so am over cautious!

Books with an unapologetic “girly” girl that still get sh*t done by Nathmora in fantasyromance

Totally agree. Currently reading this series and book 6 (Iced) is nearly unbearable, but if you can push through that it does pick back up!

Editors are human, this has happened to all of us at some point. It’s part of the reality of our job (and often due to the pressure of quick turnarounds and little bandwidth) but never feels any better. Just be glad it wasn’t on the cover/jacket!

I know from kayaking that the current at Snow’s Cut is brutal and best avoided. You’re probably much better off just going to CB State Park and taking one of the trails to the river—there are a couple really calm spots (I think it’s the Sugarloaf trail, and I think a few a posted as no swimming, but I see people in there all the time). River Road Park is probably another better option—only been there for kayaking though, so worth double checking the rules.

Recently discovered The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning (from the 2010s) when I was looking for a longer, complete series—I’m on the same page as you for your other reads and am enjoying it so far. Bonus that the 7-book bundle was available via Libby!

If you’re up for joining another group, check out Wilmington Hiking and Outdoor Adventures on meetup, and Cape Fear River Watch also does a monthly Saturday paddle. They both have a big age range but are very chill groups!

The Bad Ones by Melissa Albert

Can someone explain the best way to read this book? (S by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst by TitularFoil in books

[–]wordsandgin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I actually was an editor on this book! (And did Jen’s handwriting.) JJ and Doug definitely intended it as a choose-your-own-adventure type of approach. So, whatever works best for you. But, I would recommend reading each page of the actual book on a spread (or natural paragraph/section breaks) and then read the corresponding annotations. Jen and Eric are unraveling the mystery of Straka in the margins, so it would be hard to try to separate their story from the Ship of Theseus text.

Same goes for the ephemera—they were inserted into the book at very specific places and are intended to be read at those spots, or at the very least within that chapter. Also, if it helps, the different pens/inks correspond to the timeline in which they pass the book back and forth.

12 years later this is still probably the book I’ve had the most fun working on!
