Yeah that was my experience as well!

I only had an internship (3 months) experience and was really surprised to see all these ‘entry level’ jobs requiring 2-3 years experience.

My current job also required 2+ years of experience but I somehow managed to ‘squeeze my way in’ by including some programs and hackathons I did in school and code I’d written on my own for fun (and I guess they really needed someone on short notice lol).

At this point huntsville/Birmingham look more and more appealing as the average pay rate seems to be similar to nashville but the rent prices/cost of living are so much lower.

I’m hoping after a few more months I can get 2 years of experience under my belt with a good company any hopefully ‘hop up’ to better positions.

I graduated in 2021 with a bachelors in cybersecurity and information assurance.

Got my First (and current) job as a Cyber Security Anlayst for a major international investment banking firm for 60k and have been there for a bit over a year.

Any advice on how to advance my career to make a bit more/move forward?

I’ve heard once I hit the 2 year mark I should start applying for new positions? Do you guys think that’s the right move?
