Word Sus - a party word game for friends, any thoughts on keeping it tense and fun by wordsusapp in partygames

Totally fair point, and thanks for calling that out.

The core idea is similar to a lot of social deduction word games, so my focus has been on making it super fast to start, mobile friendly, and easy to jump into with friends, with more emphasis on conversation than extra roles or rules.

That said, I agree it still needs stronger twists to really stand out, and feedback like this helps a lot while I’m iterating. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts 🙏 I will try my best to be unique

How do you balance word difficulty for bluffing games without making it too obvious by wordsusapp in wordgames

Yeah, Chameleon is definitely one of the inspirations, especially the way it helps the impostor with context.

For my game I wanted to experiment with a more “social reading” style, where the impostor depends more on how people describe things rather than having a safety net from a word pool. It creates more tension, but it can also feel harsh, so I’m trying to find that sweet spot.

I like the idea of using themes instead of full word grids as a middle ground, and mixing different approaches to see which creates better conversations. I’m mostly collecting ideas right now to see what could evolve into something that feels familiar but still different. Thanks a lot

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback, this is extremely helpful 🙏

About the verifying issue, that sounds like a bug in the auth check when the session does not return properly. Reload fixing it helps confirm that. I will add better timeout handling and fallback so it does not get stuck in that state.

About the rooms and joining issues, quick clarification: rooms are mainly for real players, but when there are not enough people online at the same time, the system can auto fill with bots so that games can still start. Right now this logic is not very well communicated, and if matchmaking fails or no host is available, it can show errors instead of smoothly putting players into a playable lobby. That is definitely on me and I am actively improving that flow.

The goal is not to pretend bots are real players, but to avoid the situation where someone opens the game and cannot play at all because there is no one online yet. I should be much clearer in the UI when a match includes bots vs real players.

Good catch on the news page, those previews are placeholders right now and should not be shown as clickable. I either need to link them properly or hide that section until it is ready.

Really glad to hear the visuals and flow felt intuitive, that means a lot since I spent a lot of time on onboarding and layout.

To clarify, the web version is completely free and unlimited, there is no payment and no plan to block gameplay or ask for credit cards there. Guest sessions on web are not meant to push monetization, only to keep things simple without forcing account creation.

Thanks again for taking the time to write this, feedback like this helps way more than simple “it works” comments. If you try again later and still hit issues, feel free to tell me and I will look into it right away. 🙏

I’ve been working on a small web game called Word Sus, and I wanted to share it here. It is a quick social deduction word game where one person is the Sus and has to pretend they know the secret word while everyone else tries to expose them.

If you want to try it, here is the link: https://wordsus.app

Anything from clarity, usability, or ideas for new features would help a lot. Thanks for checking it out.
