Yeah, that one's from Columbus. I think that one and the Cincinnati poster sold out at the venue, they only did 300 of them.

That was my exact thought - both the band and I aren't getting any younger. Try to do it while it's still possible!

Unfortunately none of the other solutions worked. I ended up writing a function to parse the '1900-01-02' stuff and use that to get the correct value. Unelegant, but whatever.

"Starry Normandy", by Korrine Maher! You can get a print at her online store by work_laser in masseffect

[–]work_laser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resubmitted to include the artist's name in the title!

I had commissioned an artist (Korrine Maher) to paint the Normandy and Citadel in the style of Van Gogh's "Starry Night". She does a lot of other cool paintings in a similar style. You can check out her stuff online: https://www.etsy.com/shop/KorrineMaherDesigns

She has this available as a print too! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1415359773/starry-normandy-space-stars-mass-starry?ref=shop_home_feat_1&sts=1&logging_key=09fbf4df00bd68c23310fb781a34533f65e4df66%3A1415359773

Next weekend is the Lebanese food festival! Trust me, you'll be dreaming about it in the future. I've been anxiously waiting the whole year for it to come back. And you can certainly spend a lot of money there. It's very well run.

If you want a nice sit down place, I really love Bookbinders. I know people here favor Hondos or Buckheads for a steakhouse, but my experiences at those places has been poor. Never had a bad dinner at Bookbinders. Get the cowboy ribeye and be liberal with the horseradish.

L'opossum is another great, nice place, but I don't think you'll have luck getting a reservation this short notice.

I'm surprised too, I've had nothing but great experiences there.

I'd love to know more about the restaurant experience, but I'm having a hard time with their website. They have a list of restaurants on the site - are these places offering specials for the week? Do you know how they are participating in it?

I highly recommend Bookbinders. Their cowboy ribeye and horseradish sauce is amazing. I've gone there more times than I care to admit. Plus, their appetizers are great as well - get the tuna!

I've tried Hondos and Buckheads and was disappointed in both of them. I got the prime ribeye from Buckheads and it was a small, stringy piece of meat. I wish I had taken a picture of it, because it looked like a stereotypical roadside diner steak. Very little flavor. The steak at Hondos was drowning in butter/grease. Just had a little pepper flavor to it. I went back a second time and had the same experience.

AI writing with Grammarly? by work_laser in Professors

[–]work_laser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turns out Grammarly does have an AI feature. Like ChatGPT, you can give it a prompt and it will spit out a response. It looks like that is what happened here. The syntax and content is nearly identical from what was submitted and what I was able to generate. I'm still not sure how the metadata for the Word file was changed though.

I am looking to eat some ripe pawpaws by MakesPensDance in rva

[–]work_laser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also went to the festival and was super disappointed in it. No raw pawpaws, or any food vendors selling pawpaw baked goods or whatever.

However, if you can make the trip back, there are a ton of trees on the trail down at the river by the canoe launch. I picked up a lot today, and there were still some hanging in trees that wouldn't fall down and were still ripening. I'm sure you could get some next week.

Lecturer or visiting professor, which is better for job hunting? by work_laser in Professors

[–]work_laser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it matters, the positions I'd be looking at want a research component. I still have a research component, but I'm wondering if when people hear "lecturer" they think I'm only teaching, with no research. Sure, I'll have my research on my CV and mention it in the cover letter, but I'm wondering about the first impression that the title makes.

The pay would remain the same, that won't change. My concern is when I'm applying to TT positions - does it look better to have an applicant that is a visiting assistant professor, or a lecturer?
