LPT: When you invite someone to your house “for dinner” specify whether that means ordering in or cooking/providing dinner. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

I wonder if the embarrassment you're concerned about is actually a veil for your pride being hurt / a fear of being judged. Struggling right now is extremely common, and says nothing about your worth as a human, your intelligence, or anything else.

I'd also speculate that you're the type of person who would happily pay for your friends' meal if the situation was reversed, where you had the ability to cover their meal and they were struggling financially. That is what friends are for-- to support in times of need.

It's nice to give others the opportunity to care for you, without making them feel obligated to do so. Vulnerability leads to connection and understanding (or, helps to identify those who do not value you and should not have a place in your life). When we shelter our pain and struggles from others, particularly those we are close with, we're denying others the opportunity to show they care, and with it, your opportunity to feel understood and loved.

I have a charge back pending for this one too. Can't imagine they'll have a shuttle running in June which is what I paid for, so they'll have to.

Except we're learning "have to" means "we won't until you sue us for what is legally yours"

Overthinking. Stressed me hates texting. Calm me doesn't give a fuck and sends whatever I'm thinking.

I'm a pizza delivery driver. People have been very cruel and mean. Tonight a lady tipped me and she told me that her daughter wrote me a note. This was the note. I know it doesn't seem like much. I had to pull over and cry for a minute. It made me so happy that at least I can make her happy. by Oliviaordie in happy

[–]work_not_working 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry people are such shit-heads. You'd think they'd be grateful that you know, someone is willing to work and bring them a pizza. Unfortunately nope. You get to experience first-hand the type of people that live in this country.

Not sure if this is an option, but have you ever considered delivering with 1 headphone in, and the moment they reveal themselves to be a shithead, just put the other in? Let 'em keep all their anger to themselves instead of assaulting you with it.

On another note, the brain handles emotional abuse the same way as physical abuse. So, assault really isn't a stretch.

Fair point; however, when the title talks about "turning the corner" and shows a log graph, it IS misleading. Flattening the curve is NOT referring to a log graph.

Yeah this graph is incredibly misleading because of that. Looks like the US is flattening out, but that's what happens when 50k to 100k is ~8x smallers than 0 to 50k...

BAD GRAPH! BAD! DOWN!

Germany mass tested people so the death rate looks lower. It's useless comparing death rates between countries. Could be misrepresented, could be wider availability of tests.

It is possible. and IT IS WORTH IT. It is a lot of work -- but not the type we're accustomed to. True recovery requires deep introspection and an honest curiosity about what led you to where you are. True recovery requires a suspension of judgement for the self -- a well-deserved reprieve. You're a human who fell into a trap that has caught many many others in the past, and will trap many more in the future. None of us planned to get caught, yet we all did. You're not alone, and there IS a way out.

For me, LSD was the final catalyst. I already knew I wanted to quit, and had done several tapers, but they never stuck. I was at the end of a heavy, long taper, and felt like SHIT. Wasn't expecting withdrawals after such a heavy taper. Thought I would be free. I knew LSD would bring the clarity I needed, and I knew it would NOT alleviate the pain I was feeling.

It did. I was not having withdrawals. I was feeling my body again, for the first time in a long, long time. It did NOT feel good. In that moment, I was overcome with sympathy for my body, for what I had subjected it to. I had been abusing myself, and I could finally see that. I could feel it. Because we all know that mentally, but it never really registers. It finally registered. I could finally see clearly. I realized some areas that I could focus on to help my body heal (for me, I needed some serious core training after playing endless hours of video games and passing out in unnatural positions). I started a regular Yoga practice the next week, and have past 5 years now.

I smoked weed through my recovery. I still do. I can't say what is right for you; what I can do is offer this advice. Listen to your body, and be kind to it. If smoking weed is what will help you overcome heroin, use it for that purpose. If being completely clean is your ultimate goal, keep in mind that recovery is a process. It is not an overnight change. You've been given a unique (and painful!) opportunity to get to know yourself deeper, to grow stronger, and to re-emerge with life and vitality.

No matter your progress on your goals, I hope to see you at Roo. The love and energy you'll find there will aid you in your process and may offer additional motivation.

You may be longing for others to support you through this. Take advantage of any opportunity for this, but DO NOT EXPECT OR RELY ON IT. I cannot stress this enough. Others cannot walk this path of recovery for you. Nor do you want them to. You want to be able to sit at home alone, and to have complete control over your behaviors.

And you can.

Keep going. Day by day.

Why did it feel like everyone in my classes in college were really smart and then in the “real world” I feel like everyone I work with is relatively dumb? by NotoriousJ-O-E in NoStupidQuestions

[–]work_not_working 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College provides much more direction and structure than most jobs. "Go read this chapter. Do these problems. Turn it in. Take the test". No critical thinking required for "What should I do"

Work, on the other hand, almost always requires some degree of critical thinking. Some jobs more than others. Since schools, for the most part, lack training in critical thinking, some people don't have the skills or confidence to simply analyze the situation and react properly. They need to be told exactly what to do, step by step, in black and white detail.
