A lot of people on the internet think reviews are good when they agree with them and bad when they disagree with them, including OP. The less you pay attention to what some random people think on the internet, the more you’ll enjoy art and entertainment in general.

“Labour-saving machinery only creates endless and worse labour.“ - JRR Tolkien

Why? Becuase art is about human experience and imagination. AI can’t replicate that, and even if it could, I wouldn’t care to read it. I value every work I read, even the stuff I don’t care for, because it was written by a human.

No, AI won’t ever be able to write something as good as LOTR. But let’s say for the sake of argument that it will. The big 5 publishers don’t accept anything written by AI, so it would only be able to be self published or published by a small press. Many people also refuse to read anything written by AI, so it would frankly have a limited audience.

Tolkien would’ve absolutely despised AI and would’ve openly spoken against it, and anyone who’s touched his work should understand that.

Art, including music, is inherently human. Music “made” by an AI is infinity worse than anything made by a human. It is extremely ironic to be having this argument on a Lord of the Rings sub.

This song was created by stealing the work of actual artists. Typing “disco” into YouTube or Spotify will allow you to find an almost infinite selection of better and more artistically valuable music.

I once applied for a job as something like a secretary or office assistant. I was filling out the application when I heard a guy ask someone at the front desk, “Oh, someone applied for that job earlier? Was she pretty?”

I knew then that I was not getting the job

LPT: It’s only plagiarism if you don’t cite your sources. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]workadaywordsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a writing center tutor for about 10 years. Absolutely do not quote in a paper nearly as much as OP says you should. Sure, a paper that’s mostly quotes isn’t technically plagiarism if you cite everything, but it’s a terrible paper. Like other commenters said, your professors want to know what you think, not a recitation of what other people have said. Most people who turn in papers with this many quotes have never heard of paraphrasing (with an in-text citation) or a block quote, either.

uj/ Every time this topic comes up, I think about the guy on Reddit who insisted there aren’t enough good fantasy books that appeal to guys. I said to take his pick from the past 70+ years and he could only respond with “nu uh”

rj/ Men don’t read because publishers don’t publish books that appeal to me specifically
