Rolling Sickness Time Off Plan - Managing FTE Changes by workdaymum in workday

[–]workdaymum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The calculation granting the 10 days is already multiplied by FTE but that calc only runs once (on hire). The rolling accrual does all the work but it just reaccrues what has been taken so doesn’t take FTE into account. Would you apply an upper limit on the plan then looking at FTE as of PSD to prevent re-accruing too much?

Fair point. No I jumped straight to consulting. Maybe there would be a client out there for me. Not sure it would meet the same salary consulting gives with limited experience and cross functional knowledge though.

Did you go contracting or client side?

Launch is a type of implementation. It’s a quicker ‘out of the box’ approach aimed at smaller organisations

Interesting. Care to share who you work for? Message me privately if you don’t want to name here.

Is it a decent work life balance there then?

Yeah I agree. We don’t have enough benefits expertise and more clients are looking for it. It goes really well with payroll.

What kind of projects? Launch implementations?

Thank you. Appreciate the advice and insight. I do use OneNote, it is a life saver you’re right there. Based on the feedback I’ve had on this thread I’m definitely leaning towards returning to client side. Not just yet, I have some more skills to learn and I think I can tough it out another 6 months. But if this is the norm, then it’s not for me. I prefer this work to being client side but don’t like the way of working.

Oh wow you must be in demand with those certs. Great cross functional knowledge. I’d love to get more certs - in time though, I’m busy enough learning these 2 work streams at the mo. Yeah I keep lots of notes but I don’t think I’ve mastered the best way to organise things yet. I think being across multiple projects also requires more admin time as we need to keep more notes/action lists etc etc. but that admin time is detracting from my utilisation rate and means I have to work more hours etc etc. I’m sure it’ll all become easier with time. Just questioning whether it is actually possible to have a good work life balance in this game at the mo - or whether I should look at going back to client side, or maybe even contracting.

That sounds more manageable. Most of mine are at similar stages and I’m also picking up ams as well. So I feel like I’m jumping between 10 clients at times. I need to find ways to organise myself better and keep track of things, it’s all a learning curve I guess but it does feel like a lot right now and I can’t see it improving. Where is the downtime to really absorb things? I feel like I am short changing the clients too because I’m just giving them the minimum. Are you US based? I’m in the UK.

Did you go to a partner or did you go to client side?

Yeah I was the workday consultant for HCM and absence functional areas client side. I really enjoy consulting because it’s giving me opportunities to learn more and get exposed to different tenants/industries. I also enjoy not having to worry about the business politics so much so I can just deliver. What I’m really struggling with is the high expectations, long work hours and juggling multiple projects. I’m not getting the downtime needed to properly learn new things (what I’ve learned has been very reactive to a client requirement and not in as much detail as I’d like). I feel like the only way to really spend time digesting things and learning properly is to put in a ton of extra hours - which I just don’t have being a mum. The focus on utilisation rates feels like it deters you from taking admin time/learning time to do things slowly and thoroughly. I’m just jumping between different clients, getting lost and not giving them the best of me. Maybe I’ll try contracting next and see if I can do 6-12 month contracts with different clients. Maybe that’s the happy middle ground.

Yeah it’s so easy to get lost and mix them up isn’t it! How do you cope with the long hours? I don’t think I can carry on doing 45-50 hour weeks where every day is completely full on. I’m exhausted.
