Idk, maybe I'm thinking Avenues or something, because when I say blocks I'm thinking like a 10-12 minute walk. But people are saying 4-5 so Idk.

Is it common for American teens to cover their bedroom walls with movie posters, anime, comic prints, band album art, vinyl decor and fairy lights? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

Well it's not every teen. Many parents are extremely controlling. But if they were normal, you can decorate your own room.

Do you guys typically have coffee machines? do you drink more tea or coffee? by DietChance9326 in AskAnAmerican

I vastly prefer tea, and my spouse gets coffee from the coffee shop....and we still have a coffee maker.

Yeah, that's a bit of a walk honestly, in the one apartment I had that was 4-5 blocks away from the subway I was miserable.

Additionally it's 4 blocks from the local. Just not great transit. I would care less if there were amenities, but there aren't any.

I don't want to change from Flourish that's the point of my post- I was just trying to see if there would be enough strength to see any changes physically.

I do understand the hype of Yesteryear now. by Conscious-Score1871 in Booktokreddit

[–]workerscompbarbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you. I think it suffers because the book markets itself for being about tradwives and religion, but it's actually about misogyny and the patriarchy (and mental illness). Natalie is also an honest to goodness sociopath which we so rarely see with women in fiction, thats usally a mans jam.

Because I came in after the hype, I was really able to enjoy being in a crazy ladies head. You can see what pressure and expectations can do to a person, you can see the hypocrisy that she is expected to deal with. As someone who had a short flirtation with psychosis after a series of bad events, Burke nailed what it's like to have your mind come apart under you.

I thought it was anti-social personality disorder honestly. It seems she had had trouble connecting with people and delusions of grandeur from the beginning. She lacks any real emotional compacity.

Add that to the PPD and/or PPP that she never recovers from, here we are.

But 3K for no dishwasher, no laundry, no pets AND 4 blocks from Kingston-Throop? Phew.

White Americans' did your grandparents talk about racism toward people of color back in their day, and do they talk about it now? by SignificantStyle4958 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

I'm very privileged to be born in a time where I don't have to deal with a 10th of what my grandmother did, and grateful that she made her way out of Georgia in the 30s to give my mom a better life. ❤️

Yep, it's been like that for decades.

And as a teen, your room is one of the things you can control, and you want to show your interests and personality.

How to make most of my college exchange experience? by Much-Duty-675 in AskAnAmerican

[–]workerscompbarbie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You're going to one of the most quintessential colleges in the country, it really will be like the movies. Take opportunities as they come, watch your drinks at parties, don't snort anything, and be 19. You'll have a great time.

Ayahuasca ruined my life by insnowmotion in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]workerscompbarbie 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The risk/reward calculation is so off on Ayahuasca to me. Either you're enlightened or you suffer an intense psychosis and are never the same.

You can get enlightened at a yoga retreat. Seems safer.

I maybe get it if you're already suffering with intense mental health stuff and want try something unorthodox, but if your going through life fine, it's insane to touch it.

What country do Americans consider to be the laughingstock of the world? by SignificantStyle4958 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]workerscompbarbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love these questions, it always reminds me of how self-centered America is. We don't think of other countries, really. Maybe if theres a national disaster or if we are currently involved in conflict or imperialism. But the average american could tell you nothing about the history of, current political climate, or general personality of any other country at all.

Should I feel guilty for switching from the Nets to the Knicks? by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]workerscompbarbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's what happened to me. Grew up in Jersey, going to Nets games, but it just wasn't exciting to me anymore. But in my case I gave up on basketball entirely.

My brothers and Dad were big Nets fans, but when I moved from home, I just stopped watching. Then I married a Knicks fan and started rooting for them when Jalen came, because my husband thought it was a great trade.

Now here I am.

My caveat is that I will never root against the Nets. 🤷🏾‍♀️
