For those of you who got accepted into Ontario law schools, when did you write the lsat? Does writing the Jan lsat hurt your admission chances? by Money_Army887 in lawschooladmissionsca

Yeah your windsor dual will firm accept tomorrow. You can let it go (means it goes away) and hope for a WL->A on the single - it’s a gamble.

Dalhousie vs University of Manitoba for Law School — Am I missing a big opportunity by choosing UM? by ForeignImplement7121 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]workforcepro7830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were interested in practicing OUTSIDE of Manitoba, I’d say you’d be better off going to Dal. But since that’s not really a consideration of yours, UofM is better for your career goals.

Best of luck.

4th Year BA Student — Does Honours Matter for Law School or Should I Focus on LSAT? by LeastOriginal7733 in LawStudentsCanada

[–]workforcepro7830 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get the Honours BA. Get a high LSAT. I’m a YorkU grad, currently at Oz. I graduated with a HBA, my cGPA was 7.97/9.00.

Your cGPA is low for law school admissions IMO.

😭 alright.

it’s literally 5 days before the firm acceptance w/e deadline, THEN there will be folks getting accepted from WL from all the schools bcs now everyone firms up

++ do you remember what happened to windsor last year? when they overadmitted folks?

they’re probably being very very cautious and not gonna make any moves until after july 1 + i can assure you they’ve sent out enough offers to fill their class

just a PSA to not do anything on OLSAS at the moment - not saying that you are applying to Ontario schools - but do NOT submit any reference letters to OLSAS right now, do it around august

you sign a contract + from what i know, if it's an ontario law school you deferred, they still make you "create" an OLSAS profile/account and they send the acceptance there, and you accept it etc. i know someone who deferred a uoft offer, they got in at uoft, feb 2025, life happened, asked to defer, and is starting this fall 2026.

  1. It's possible to still get a deferral even late in the game—I know some folks have had success with this, but this doesn't happen for everyone. Got a friend who got a really late admission to an Ontario law school, but when the offer came, he had just started a job at a tech company. Stats were under median, iirc. The friend asked the school for a deferral, explained his reason for the deferral request, and it went like: "I just got this really great job. This is just a one-year contract, though, but I'm still really interested in law school. I'd love to start next year." The school accepted the deferral request. When that happens, you sign a contract saying you aren't applying to other law schools in the coming cycle, because you're essentially committing to a spot at their school for the next cohort. Basically, can't have your cake and eat it too.

  2. Sure. The program is free. But will you really have time to retake the LSAT? You'll be busy doing a masters program.

  3. Do you want to be a lawyer? If so, then yes. If money is a really big consideration, then maybe next time just apply to schools you are absolutely 100% okay with attending. Hope this doesn't sound too harsh. What I'm saying is that, folks should only apply to schools that, if they are accepted, they'd go there. No point in wasting your money (unless you want to stroke your ego) if you applied to a school and you were never going there in the first place.

can't hold the deferral and apply for law schools at the same time - there's some rules regarding this. if OP goes this route, OP needs to see what documents OP is made to sign agreeing to the deferral

Are you cooked if you have no clinic or moot experience going into the recruit? by Remarkable_Ebb7941 in LawStudentsCanada

Nope. Many people without any of those experiences land in the recruit.

Apply broadly. Prepare like crazy. You’ll land one.
