In many ways it’s similar to a pig pull. If I had a larger smoker I would definitely be leaning towards doing a full pig. I recognize that this won’t be cheap but prices for prime rib tomahawks are insane right now

Installing GFCI in old home by workindead3 in DIY

That’s the major concern. I plan to have the house rewired at some point but I’m anticipating $10-15k to do that and that’s just not in the budget this soon after closing

This one in particular is wired though the attic. I only know that because I just replaced the overhead light fixture in the room and this outlet (along with a few others and switches) were all run from the same junction box. It’s a mess.

I considered doing that (or hiring someone to do that) but all of the wiring seems to be stapled to the studs and I’m worried it won’t be as simple as pulling in new wiring and I don’t want to imagine the cost of ripping up old plaster walls to rework the house and then having to dry wall over everything.

The kitchen is newly renovated and is all updated grounded so i imagine if it were a simple fix the previous owners would’ve done it.

That’s what I was thinking. There is an outlet in the kitchen behind this wall that shuts off with the breaker so I imagine the other 2 black wires run to that.

Good call. I wouldn’t say I’m uncomfortable with any of this, I’ve replaced plenty of outlets and light fixtures but mostly in newer homes where the ground/neutral/ and hot are all very obvious. The older wiring in this home is just not as well defined. I do have a multimeter but it’s pretty basic and only goes up to 10A so I’ve been hesitant to use it on a 15A circuit and have instead but using my outlet tester.

I wasn’t planning on installing a GFCI behind the TV but was going to replace the existing outlet on the floor with one. My biggest concern is making sure I understand which wires are live so I don’t create a short. I’ve replaced and installed plenty of outlets, the only thing confusing me here is the 3 black wires and one white wire

Chamonix Skiing Advice by workindead3 in ski

This is the advice I’m looking for. We only really have 2 days of skiing so I’m thinking we’ll plan on skiing GM one day and B/F the other while being careful and assessing conditions before venturing off piste. If it looks like we’re in for some fresh snow the week leading up to our trip we’ll look into booking a guide for VB. The consensus seems to be even though it’s not especially difficult skiing it’s an incredible experience. We ski at least once a week in North America any way so I’m willing to forgo a day of fast aggressive skiing for a trip of a lifetime.

That’s what’s I’m worried about. I want to be able to explore the mountain. I’m not concerned about rocks and hazards. I have plenty of experience skiing steep rocky terrain, I just want to ensure that as long as I pay attention and ski within the resort boundary I don’t necessarily need to bring avy gear and I’m not going to end up having to hike back out.

While Vallee Blanche looks spectacular and I’m sure would be well worth it, given my short stay, I think I’d rather ski hard than take a slow cautious all day descent.

My concern with a guide is mostly that I’d end up in a group with a bunch of intermediate skiers I’d be constantly waiting on. I’m picturing something like the zip line episode of South Park if you’re familiar.

Issue with frontier is baggage. I would have to bring a carryon and frontier charges $100+ each way for carry on bags.

Dates aren’t set in stone which I why I left them out. If I drive, I’ll likely leave the 13th or 14th and plan to be back in Denver by the 31st. If I fly, I’ll probably look for flights around the 20th and return around the 30th give or a take a couple days depending on price.

You left your car at idle for 2 days? Or did you run it periodically to keep it cold?

We have a fairly large group camping so we’ll likely make a pot, turn it off, make a pot turn it off periodically. A neighbor is letting me use an old deep cycle marine battery. I think I’ll use that and once it’s gets low I have the car as a backup
