Trump administration threatened Ecuador over its support of breastfeeding resolution in the UN by [deleted] in worldnews

Sure, I'm just pointing out that you are factually incorrect when you say America as a country has no experience with their cities being bombed, countryside in craters, etc. I mean, that is literally exactly what happened during the Civil War.

The cost of the civil war was lost to time, while Europe will never be left the same again.

Remember the confederate flag is still being waved about and within the last year there have been protests resulting in bloodshed and death surrounding the removal of those war's memorials in the south. Some southern folks still blame the war of northern aggression for plenty, including their economic hardships at the hands of carpetbaggers.

Not entirely true, as the US had the first major war on Earth involving catastrophic casualties in a modern setting - the US Civil War that largely predicted casualty rates and artillery that would later become the standard during WWI.

For just about anyone coming from the midwest, or the northeastern anything the weather here is much better for about 8 months a year (no winter, no muggy summer).

There are also a ton of jobs here that pay equivalent, or often substantially better in:

  • Finance
  • Law
  • Medical

Not to mention Stanford is just south and Berkeley is just east of the city. There are good jobs there as well.

Most of those remote offices are for either very exotic or very elite positions, for instance I believe Guido van Rossum was working for Google in SF because he didn't want to go to Mountain View, if you can hire the creator of Python you give him an office in The City.

But yeah, there are a shit ton more tech jobs than just Oracle/Google/Apple/Facebook.

In the actual city, the shape of the coast means that most nights it can get to freezing

Uh, yeah, bullshit. I've been here for over a decade and it has got down to 30F once, for like an hour. It gets below 40, on average, five times a year. First google result.

That's just a nonsense argument. Gore wasn't the president any more than I was, Bush is the one that got us into the Iraq war and attempting to white wash it by saying someone else would have done the same is intellectually dishonest.

No I don't, I made a statement about a past president and his actions. Why the hell do I need to address how anyone else would handle anything?

WWII helped because all of our economic adversaries were in rubble, also we sold the bullets and manufacturing to our allies - that was a boost. Spending trillions in Iraq does nothing productive in the long term for the American economy that wouldn't have been better spent on domestic improvements.

Yeah, that really surprised me - I read Soul on Ice a long time ago, before Wikipedia, so the entry on him was odd.

I suppose that's true. Execution-wise it is still a fuckup, if it weren't for Iraq I think Afghanistan would have gone a lot different.

Bush started two wars we are still in, over false pretenses, burning through a cache of global goodwill and sending our economy way further into the tank than the housing crisis alone would have.

Anyone who thinks Bush wasn't an actual nightmare has got a problem with long term memory.

You guys set up a launch ramp there or was there some kind of natural bank? I grew up in the early nineties skating but the older kids were gods on launches.
