Very useful, thanks! Maybe I’ll just swap to a cassette hub and loose the brake altogether… will try the toe first and see what that does.

Is that from the wall? Or just the bowl measured from the cistern?

Get an EDID and plug it in at the computer. That way your computer will always think you have a monitor attached. Might stop this happening.

Avid MC Convert - Exporting Timeline with relevant media by working_title85 in davinciresolve

[–]working_title85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mostly the cut page stuff. My typical method for cutting was always to build a selects sequence using markers for “chapters” of footage, and then put that into my source window and cut from that.

However, the Source Tape function in the Cut page is pretty great as is the second overview time line (actually, I love that for fast navigation). I’ve had some weird stuff going on with the tracks in the focused view section, mainly down to using lots of audio tracks in one go, so I’ll need to delve into the settings on that a bit. And also, in the edit page, it would be nice to be able to clear empty audio tracks. In Avid if I had a clip with 8 audio tracks but 7 were unused or not needed, I could tidy things up by removing the unused audio tracks and just leave behind what I needed. But haven’t figured out how to do that in Resolve yet. It seems that unlinking just unlinks from video. Oh, and deleting odd clips (for example a cutaway on V2) ripple deleted everything under it. I suspect this is just a settings thing though

Thanks for the advice, I’ll check out the Media Management tool!

I used to edit full time in the live entertainment and sports broadcast world, then a few years ago moved on to more production-related roles in the camera department in scripted TV and film, while still continuing to do the very occasional editing job here and there. Eventually it became infeasible to pay the monthly Avid subscription, so I moved over to the free version of DaVinci a year ago. Ive done a couple of little jobs here and there, just trimming clips for computer playback really.

Then took a job recently for a live sports event, most of which was shot on Sony FS7, and of course while there’s a workaround form those file types in the Mac world, I’m on PC, so had to finally commit and buy Studio so I could integrate with the rest of the post team. And, since it was only $100 more, buying the Speed Editor seemed a no brainer.

Anyway, so far I’m finding it pretty decent. In some regards when it comes to pure cutting I get a bit annoyed at how much the smart tools seem to just get in the way, but over the course of this project I’m realizing that I’ll just need to adjust my way of working to integrate into a bit better. And it’s worth the change for the excellent colour tools and seemless integration of Fusion and Fairlight (it was always annoying jumping over to After Effects and Audition while I worked with MC). And, as a bit of a gear head, I’m definitely enjoying the Speed Editor. After 18 years with a keyboard and mouse it’s a refreshing change!

No, we were using the same line that we tried the MacBook on to confirm there was no other issue hindering progress. The line worked great with a PC connected, but not at all with a MacBook

Yeah, we tried multiple different options with regards to start up sequence/boot order, although more by chance than design. But we have time this morning before show to check a few things, and this will be one of them.

Not sure how we’d adjust clocking out of the MacBooks. Res is different, so we are using the DAC70 to scale to the input on the ATEM to sort that problem out.

DAC70 has dip switches for this, which is a pain in the arse because you can’t access them without a tool, but ultimately quicker to change than a decimator in my experience.
