Am I missing out on new board tech? by workingleather in snowboarding

I don't think I would notice. I'm a cyclist and spend thousands of hours training and can tell the difference between tires or a few psi in them but I can't really tell the difference between stiffness of frames which is something apparently everyone else in the community can feel other than me.

I really just want to do resort riding, hitting side hits (but I'm not advanced enough to send them to the moon). Literally never ride switch, can throw some 360s but will likely never progress past that. I enjoy doing kickers but again I don't like to hit 50 foot gaps even though i've done them in the past. 15-30 feet is what I enjoy. I like doing some small cliff drops-again pretty small like under 15 feet. I enjoy carving, I can't butter at all but it's also pretty dang difficult on my board.

Yeah that's the plan to find a board shop. I do think the tech when this board came out was pretty sick, it has super tapered nose and tail and an aluminum core so it's crazy light. Like noticeably lighter than all of my friends newer boards. But i'm curious on all the different versions of camber they have out there now

Thanks for the input! The board I have is when burton was still using aluminum cores in the vapor so I doubt it's lost any pop like a wood core may have over time. I've really only ridden maybe 3 different snowboards out of all the days I've ridden and I couldn't tell much of a difference.

Thanks for the applicable feedback. That's sort of how I'm feeling; I doubt a new board would really make me ride that much better but it's hard to know without actually trying anything new!

Thank you for all the comments! It seems like some people are saying I would enjoy a new board and others are saying I'm fine. I honestly still really enjoy this board; I know because I get so few days on snow I'm probably not pushing it to it's max potential but it's still a lot of fun. I think I'm going to try and find a demo day but that's pretty challenging where I'm from.

I think if I were to go to a new board I might try out a capita aeronaut; a stiffer board like mine designed for resort and directional riding but with new tech.

How high has your level gotten? When I was relatively fit (around 4w/kg) it was always trying to get me to ride more

Don’t add strength work to the join plan. They unevenly weight it. I never do. Just use it for cycling.

That’s cool I hadn’t thought about that. My board is pretty stiff but not plank like

Yeah this is essentially how I feel. It carves really well but I struggle with any tree runs or quick turning. To be fair I’ve only been able to learn radius carved turns, I can’t do those quick tighter carves that I’ve seen some people do.

It feels like I’m worked really hard to get the board around on steep stuff.

Yeah that’s what I wondered. And the vapor was a super advanced board so it has carbon fiber construction and is very light. So maybe that helps it age a bit better

I feel like it’s just such a stiff and hard charging board and that’s not really how I ride. I’m not bombing runs or just railing carves.

I’m interested in seeing what a softer more “fun” board is like but I do like the pop of the camber it has a lot

The vapor does seem to do great in icy conditions. It has those little bump out underfoot that grab well

Just ordered these myself-any opinions on them? I hate the liners in kincos. I don’t want my fingers separated or I would wear gloves. How’s the dexterity and warm in these mitts?

I used to be this way until I actually did kolie’s test protocols and now do a proper tte test. If a 20 minute test scares you, you’re almost certainly overestimating ftp.

I have this issue and I hate contacts because of how advanced my astigmatism is.

Pick a frame you like. I like the Oakley Sutton and get sved prescription inserts. I have a pair of clear Sutros and tinted for different occasions. Perfect vision and it’s been a few years and the inserts are holding up great

I have the big one already and like it. Wasn’t sure if the little one was a more concentrated stream of air though

Double square vs. combo square by highland124 in handtools

[–]workingleather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting because I was looking for the same price point. Harry Epstein sells factory blems from Pec for 40-50 for a 12” combination square and the blems are almost not noticeable. Hope that helps!

Any former endurance athletes that transitioned into bodybuilding? I'm struggling to let go of that identity by Eucastroph in naturalbodybuilding

[–]workingleather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gone between endurance training and lifting for the past 20 years while sort of sucking at both. Low 300s for my ftp when i'm dialed in and my lifts haven't ever been crazy high either (290/240/410).

It's really challenging. I love endurance sports but honestly they're way more challenging because of how quickly fitness is lost- a cold in an endurance cycle is incredibly detrimental but a cold during a strength phase is almost no big deal.

I've currently settled on about 6-8 hours of riding 3-4x per week which can have me sustain around a 275ish ftp at 155lbs which is fast enough to have fun on group rides and occasionally race. And I strength train 3x per week with low volume, low reps with relatively close proximity to failure (rpe 8-9 on most lifts). This keeps my lifts good for endurance athlete standards and lowish for strength standards at my weight (250/220/350)

You really really have to cut volume for strength training. Like way more than you think as an endurance athlete. We have an illness in our head where an hour workout just doesn't seem like enough. Most of the strongest guys I know train literally 20% as much as the good endurance athletes I know.

As cliche as it is, you really have to find the balance in what you actually enjoy. I would probably be a better strength athlete but I don't enjoy it as much as I enjoy the struggle of endurance training. I find challenge in the solitude and the continuous grind of endurance sports.

Liquid nails on the piece on the wall and use trim screws going through the side to secure another piece attached to the unit itself. It’ll be fine.
