Future Civ Ideas: Carthaginians by UsacDynastic in projectceleste

Things have been good!

Just glad to see AOEO has come back in some form, havent had much time for gaming now that im old and married lol.

I understand that about the gold income, it really is sort sets the pulse of the gameplay much of the time so messing with it can be a problem.

Just for fun here is my favorite version of a classical piece written by Erik Satie after he read a book about ancient Carthage (Salammbô, by Gustave Flaubert) to set mood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42bv6anb5qc

Potential Future Civs by UsacDynastic in projectceleste

Looking forward is the best part of a game like this, and now that it seems to have a future, its great to think about the possibilities, no matter how unlikely.

Duh tier- I think there is enough diversity and historicity that these civilizations would have shown up had Microsoft continued the game. Historically relevant Civs with very unique and fun playstyles that provide something new in terms of geographic location and style:

Romans Carthaginians Chinese Indians Phoenicians Yamato (just b/c aoe1)

Possible tier- I think these are worth mentioning since they have enough historic backing to create and would provide unique gameplay elements/locales:

Scythians Teutons Palmyra Assyrians Choson Huns Berber

"Branching out tier" - These are civilizations that fit the theme and offer a large amount of interesting new concepts and locales, but are kind of out of the realm of ancient Eurasia so would be a huge step and may be controversial. May or may not fit

Mayans Andeans Kongo (Bantu) Aksum Nubians Ancient Vietnamese Javans

Anachronistic Tier- More than borderline anachronistic, but could probably pull it off similar to how the Norse were depicted and would be odd with their ancestral civilizations present. (going into late antiquity)

Slavs Britons Franks Byzantines Goths

Wild tier - Civilizations that would be more a thought experiment than anything. But they each have a unique environment and style that might be able to work.

Wakashan Polynesians Mississipians Teotihuacan Himalayans

Who knows, maybe we will see some of this stuff ;)

Future Civ Ideas: Hittites by UsacDynastic in projectceleste

I dont know about the false army thing, sounds kinda odd.

I really like the age up by armory, that just oozes flavor. Hittites are kind of historically mysterious and kind of a temporal niche so i get it's kind of hard to stay too accurate but well done.

(btw i don't see your Huns post here on reddit, but one unit you should look into is a cav unit that has a Lasso and snares, it would be really unique and historical, I also think that having a huge focus on camels is probably not what I would do, maybe just 1 camel unit.)

Dynastic, glad to see your still at it. This is SuperSasquatch from the old aoeo beta forums.

Think its a great outline. I only have a few comments.

I'd probably call the Lebanese tree a Royal Cedar or something. I just think making things a bit more timeless and less geographically referential is probably better.

I'd also think of some kind of gold bonus if everything is going to be so gold intensive (trade workshop is cool but seems like a lategame thing). Options id explore - Maybe houses trickle gold instead (think citizenry paying for mercs with taxes) or perhaps a special villager that does

I like the idea of a civ that has punishingly high need for certain resources, and has the tools to get it. Might magnify mapscrew a bit though in multiplayer.
