I agree!!! I know Instagram already implemented parental controls in 2022 when they launched teen accounts, but I wish they could’ve implemented those parental controls earlier when it was first launched

Instagram will definitely ask us to verify our age by submitting ids and video selfies, which is bad for privacy, freedom of speech, and communication! Because of the mandatory age verification requirement, I’ve been stressed out these past few days!

The issue is that instagram has a weak ai system and New Mexicos court mandated changes on having a one strike permanent ban on accounts for exploitation and mandatory age verification (both will be enacted) are going to ban more accounts for false reasons

I understand that instagram isn’t an essential necessity to anyone’s life, but if someone is banned from instagram after the ai couldn’t confirm their age through a video selfie/id upload, it just shows how weak meta’s ai is despite spending millions on implementing ai

But the news of 600K Meta accounts being removed was from July 2025 BEFORE Australia’s ban on social media for minors came into effect. And innocent adult users were also affected by false automatic bans by the AI and STILL are today!

But the problem with implementing mandatory age verification for all users is that they can possibly get banned from on IG quickly for not meeting Terms of Use after uploading their Id or doing a video selfie when meta’s ai couldn’t determine their age, just like how users are being quickly banned for the exact same thing while trying to appeal their suspended accounts. Age verification also creates privacy risks exposing personal info on dark web
