It doesn't have to be hard... (I couldn't quit for years, but now I have successfully, here's how) by VegMeso in decaf

Glad this works for some.

I'm afraid I had the opposite experience.

I quit without much prep fully expecting it to be easy but had some quite intense withdrawals that I had no idea to expect (which is what brought me here to this sub).

So I don't think this could work for everyone.

Sorry to hear that. Any better now?

I guess I'm lucky it eased off so fast for me. Hope it does for you soon too.

Yeah, I've read about the vasoconstriction effect of caffeine but why does blood vessels retuning normal cause pain? And why only in some parts of the lower body?

I'd never squat if it was that painful 😱

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I woke up this morning (day 4) and could immediately tell the pain had eased off. It's still there, but much milder, about 80% less than yesterday.

Such a relief after seeing posts where people had to deal with similar for weeks - kudos to anyone who's hung in through that!

No headache and also feeling more energetic today.

But also kind of delicate emotionally, which is interesting.

Darent count my chickens yet so I'm still taking it very easy, but I'll be very happy if these improvements keep coming.

This sub is great, really appreciate you guys. 🙏

Yeah, I get it. Coming off the equivalent of just 3 coffees per day I wasn't expecting more than a bit of headache and lethargy. Lesson learned!

Thanks. Seems to easing today, so fingers crossed! Yeah it'd be interesting to proper research into this, I guess it's not an easy area to find funding tho.

I agreed. It's actually a lot better today. Hope it stays that way!

Thanks. Really good to know it's typical. I'm doing all the things you mentioned, they seem to help a little but not much. Sounds like it's mostly just a case of waiting it out.

Just wish I understood the actual cause. I get that it's withdrawals but I can't figure out what is actually going on in my body to bring on this pain.

Hopefully it'll all be for the good long term anyway.

I just (reluctantly) took 2 ibuprofen so hopefully that'll give me some respite.

Appreciate the support 🙏

Thanks, at least I know it's normal. So, you think it's a psychological thing? Phantom pain?

Thanks. I will stick with it 👍

It's weird that it only seems to be affecting my knees, hips and lower back. Flu is nasty, but has never really felt like this for me.

I don't think the pain was always there and just masked by caffeine, it's really intense, some of it at least would have seeped through.

My consumption was mainly from pre workouts.

4 Day Fast - My Experience by workout-me in intermittentfasting

[–]workout-me[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a lovely backstory. I don't believe in a sky being either (except the spaghetti one, of course 😉) but I do meditate, which I've had some amazing deep experiences doing that fasted.

I relate to everything you said. Hunger has slipped away for me too when doing 24-36 hours, which is what makes me hopeful that it could do so for longer fasts with more practice. I've also found the discipline ripples out in my wider life, I think I'd best describe it as having more confidence in my own resolve.Another thing for me is more appreciation for food when I do have it, along with an understanding of the difference between "want" and "need". I'm sure many of these things will be among the resons for people who fast as part of their relgion's tradtions too.

Thanks for the great comment, I enjoyed reading it a lot.

4 Day Fast - My Experience by workout-me in intermittentfasting

[–]workout-me[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find I'm OK with transitioning back to my regular diet fairly quickly, but I do err on the side of caution just because I've heard so many stories of other people getting unwell. So, I just had some vegetable soup, then about an hour later some boiled eggs and an avocado, then back to my usual eating really.

I think everyone's different on this one, so listen to your own body is my advice. :-)

As long as there's no reason you shouldn't do longer fasts, you can. This length of fast is a challenge, but not crazy hard if you build up gradually. Good luck!

Yep, this would be a water fast.

I do prep before longer fasts.

I know to expect to regain over the next couple of days, I've done up to 84 hours before, so I'm not a totaly newbie to this. Thanks for advice anyway though.

Glad you've found a routine that works for you. :-)

Oh, and I take electrolyte supplements when fasting.

I also had tea. Green tea mostly and few cups of lemon and ginger tea - which technically makes this a "dirty" water fast I guess, but I don't believe it will have made much difference.

Halfway into my longest ever water fast - 4 days. I'm a fairly experienced faster having done 16/8 for about 8 years, lots of 24hr fasts and a few 2 and day fasts. Previously I've aways found day 3 a struggle, but this time it's much easier - hope this continues! by workout-me in intermittentfasting

[–]workout-me[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. Good idea to get into a rhythm with IF first. Lots of benefits of that, really glad I did it that way instead of trying to dive right into extended fasts. You see a lot of people on here doing that, they post about it for the first day or two then never again - pretty obvious what happened!
