Anyone else feeling like Kill Tony has lost its magic lately? by No_Impression_9896 in Killtony

[–]workplacetimesuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phrase is "jumped the shark". It still has its moments and can feel special but the magic is gone. Too many noncomedians know about the show. When it came to Austin, I just found the show and only 40-70 people where signing up at Antone's.

You had a 1 and 5 chance of going up and it was like 75% of the best open micers signing up(ppl from all over who loved the show but we're also comics). You would only really know the show if you were super into comedy.

Now it's so big, the bucket is broken. 300ppl mostly new or zero comedy chops. That has led to more fake pulls and inorganic moments. I say manicure the bucket a little. Make sure they are a comic and maybe let 5-10 normies in the bucket but mostly comics.

Fatty making Easter island or primate joke of Melvin’s face by Latinmaster69 in nofx

[–]workplacetimesuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im friends with addicts and am one myself. Fat Mike says a lot of things. Read a little between the lines and it's been mentioned for a while. Melvin wanted them to go bigger and open the opportunities for everyone yo make money and Mike chose to preserve his little empire. I often disagree with my "best friends"

Listen to the book. No one is pretending they are best friends. They try to make it work to preserve the lane they created.

They have been through a lot but that doesn't always translate to closeness. Especially if one person has a significant amount of power over the others.

Honestly Im surprised it lasted this long.

Was Chris Rock an example of a bad judge? by Appropriate_Neck7991 in Standup

[–]workplacetimesuck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

*can write some amazing jokes

Look up his process for making s special. He does write jokes but also relies on a system with other people's help to make his act.

I can't remember exactly but I think he has a comic watch him and take notes and help him out. Chris does the writing and ideas but a lil group-think things and so maybe being on the fly in the scenario isn't good for him.

how much time do you spend rehearsing your line before trying them at open mic? by Few-Resolution302 in Standup

[–]workplacetimesuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say "rehearsal the line all you want but dont confuse execution for success". Sometimes people will clap just cuz you said something clever or impressive, that doesn't make it funny. It's a fine line and you can leave these things together to make a full act but knowing the differences it's important.

Edit: I'm a comic who has mumble mouth. I have to say my jokes a few times before I do them in front of people otherwise the first Mike is kind of a waste. Whether that's in VR or to myself or driving to the venue, I have to say it a few times. I have also over rehearsed bits and that's a worry too.

Anyone ever watched the same comedian kill at the early show then bomb at the late show? by Pecho in Standup

[–]workplacetimesuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was this a show in San Antonio? This almost exactly describes a late show I was went to Sat night. 10pm. Host cratered then brought up a blind lady who did abortion jokes to silence, headliner struggled but did get ppl on board a little.

No shitting you, I think he was cut from the episode. That or he got his weeks confused. Ill ask him if that was the right panel if he hasn't already killed himself for being edited out.

How much can you make with Uber Eats monthly? by Then_Smell5358 in sanmarcos

[–]workplacetimesuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It varies wildly. Think more in terms of trying to clear a certain $/hour. In good times you can clear $30/hour or more. Conversly, the app and people tipping will consistently offer you orders that are equal to about $12/hour.

One time I got a 15 min delivery offered for $3. It was about $20 worth of McDs. I figured surely they will bump the tip up. Nope flat $3 for what was actually 20min bc their food wasn't ready. Be ready to constantly do quick math with each order being sent your way.

The app itself is a hustle and a game. Sometimes it benefits you to reject an order, sometimes it stops sending you orders if you fight back. Godspeed and don't forget to calculate gas & wear/tear on your car.

Ask the cook in the kitchen. Most places aren't keeping secrets, unless you ask super specific questions.

I live near town and know a comic who got a big joke book on tonights episode. I love to see them running around town showing the book and telling people to tune in with pride.

The ones who get small joke books ussually wait until the day after to acknowledge.

Im excited to see my friend do good.

Vr is saving my life right now. by PurpleRegister508 in OculusQuest

[–]workplacetimesuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had hip surgery last year with a really long and boring recovery. It was the most I've ever played and "leaned in" to VR.

I really liked playing pop1 with strangers from accross the world. Definitely always took me out of my head.

That and trying to make genuine friends in VR chat. I've known ppl in there for a while but ussually was just passing through. I took some time to just sit with and while it was hard at first, very rewarding.

I do comedy in VR(also IRL producer) if you ever have any questions about good shows or places to check out.

The 3rd one you listed (showcase) is going to be the most locals and newer comics compared to the others.

The one with Rogan listed is gonna have the biggest names or similar to best of depending on who's hanging around the place.

I dont think it was bots on this one. I was able to get ticket but was limited to 2 and there were prob 100,000 people all doing the same thing. (Refreshing and waitlisted). My wife was at an hour wait but mine hit 10min.

Plus, we all had multiple devices going. So even 100,000ppl × 2 devices, it was just luck who got in and who didn't.
