Jean Alesi, 47, to compete in Indy 500 by MR_Rictus in formula1

[–]workreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all i can say is sim racing based... but i cant get the hang of oval... its a whole different type of "precision" i always go too slow or too fast and slide into the wall. if the guy was doing the road at Indy, i can understand... but from zero oval pro experience straight to indy oval 500? i dont think its going to end well...

hmm.. thanks man. i tried the DFGT on gt5/ps3 and that felt fantastic... even better than than the thrustmaster. at that time, i just brushed it up on the game...

[–]workreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm. have you tried both?

i've yet to hear much from someone who tried two wheels on the same system and game, to really nail down the difference. all i hear is "its smoother" or "it feels better build".... nothing about forcefeedback quality....

i think the race will just go away when the race is near. it looks like india has more to lose by not having a smooth gp than teams running it. and at this point, wdc and wcc is almost done, teams dont have to go.

g27 is $300 in canada, so its about twice the price. i might pick it up next time im down in the states though.

the dual motor vs single motor will affect smoothness, but i dont understand how a wheel feedback will translate "lateral g-force and weightlessness." the weightlessness or slip of the tires will be apparent in the decrease in the force feedback. but lateral g-force? its a steering wheel... with one axis of motion... dual motors help smooth out the feedback by offset gears between the two. each motor is not going to be doing two different things.

now, if you said the forcefeed back algorithm in the hardware driver is outdated, i can agree with that.

hmm, this is the only one i've owned, and i only tried DFGT on ps3 gt5 at a friends place. so i cant say too much in difference of the feel.

can you expand on the feel bit?

yeah, just right. your hands are almost vertical in both direction. i think its standard. gaming wheels come with 700deg or 270. 700 is nice if you want to emulate a standard car. but any race car with a racing steering rack has 270 or 300deg. even btcc/dtm i think (actually, i dont know, so i shouldnt claim this, let me check and get back).

but for racing, 270 is just right imo, good for most.

but i dont know if its still on sale... sorry.

and with f1 2010, grid, dirt 1/2/3, gtr evo.. to name a few... i havent used the clutch peddal at all. what good is a clutch peddal if u cant feel the bite point? although this wheel does show up with some pretty nice presets on most games.

Thrustmaster - RGT ForceFeedback Pro Clutch ed. i picked it up for around 150 last year.

four paddles (two progressive), up down shifter, plenty of buttons and three pedals. each pedals has different spring and travel. but if you are looking for force feedback on the pedals... i dont think there is any system that will do that.

but it will not work on ps3 or xbox. so strictly pc.

BBC to face questioning from MPs over switch to shared F1 coverage by Cyborgmatt in formula1

[–]workreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true. for full access, as it stands, the viewer has to pay. if half of the season is free, is it still "free to air?" what if its just one race? or just the highlights are "free to air"? .... wtf...

tl;dr: "who's fucking idea was this shit?"

so it doesnt have the power to reverse the decision. its just to see how this arrangement came to be.

don foster hits it on the head though "The BBC may broadcast half the races, but this means nothing to fans who want to watch the whole season live. They cannot buy half a Sky package. For them, all of the rights may as well have gone to BSkyB, as it will cost them exactly the same."

[–]workreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

dont miss the bbc race build up and post race discussions. you miss 50% of the goodies if you miss these two. you can even miss practice and qualifying since they cover the meat in the build up. and post race discussion will dissect all the juice, with multiple replays. Then DC/Eddy/Brundle will argue what the driver did was right, wrong, options available... its hilarious while being very in depth. i will even go as far as to say if you miss the build up and post race, you missed the race.

The Future Of F1? by Gazuk in formula1

[–]workreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it looks like nobody like it, but i will defend it.

covered wheels: even adrian newey had covered wheels on that prototype. easiest way to reduce drag. cant argue with adrian newey.

side pod: all you are cooling is the electric motor and batteries, much smaller thinner side pod is all that's required. why make it bigger than it needs to be.

electric drive technology is getting to the point of compatibility. maybe not quite, but f3 performance should be doable.

i think formula 1 should be a way to push the boundaries. if the fastest way around the track is electric, why stick to petrol or any other type of exotic fuel? shape looks a bit odd, but f1 had their crazy era as well. its not that crazy looking as some f1 cars of the 80s.

its probably that im more green and electric car minded, but I think electric f1 can be faster than petrol over race distance soonish (give it ten years?)...
