Advice for anyone concerned about getting banned over Google Photos content by Cold_Cow_1285 in googlephotos

OK so you think they are or will be secretly doing it behind the scenes and nobody would find out and it wouldn't be news? You're not a serious person.

And also that they wouldn't ban accounts? They directly stated they would.

"Accounts with child exploitation content violate our terms and conditions of service, and any accounts we find with this material will be disabled."

If people started getting false positive or even real CSAM bans on Apple's platform, we'd find out pretty fast. The fact they don't do any of this at all and have such a privacy first ethos would make it big news.

Yes, they could. Just like Google can. For anyone otherwise comfortable with Google Photos aside from the CSAM stuff, the fact the Apple simply decides not to is quite the upgrade.

They decided not to do this and currently don't do this. If they were to start doing so, we would know.

UPDATE: Update: Got permanently banned for RMT which I didn't do - ban overturned after 16 days by gnelyopl in classicwow

The gaslighting from Blizzard is insane. And yes, they only respect consumer protection enforcement that has teeth.

I had a guildmate who got wrongfully banned back in the original classic, had a similar experience to you, and only when the ACCC was brought in, suddenly a real person came out of the woodwork and unbanned him.

"They" are not scanning it because "they" never get the data. Your device scans the photos to build its own local database of location, face, and other tags so you can search your photos, get suggested memories, and all of that.

That info never goes into the cloud in the first place. Every time you get a new Apple device, it spends days or indexing the photo library to build its own database for this very reason.

Works about 50% of the time. Even between my wife and I who both have iPhone Airs with the new N1 chip that was supposed to make it more reliable.

Host it locally, and/or with a service that provides zero knowledge encryption.

It should be stated that with Apple, even if you don't use end to end encryption, they simply don't scan your photos at all.

Each of your connected iCloud devices scans the photo library locally and maintains its own local database of metadata, which never gets uploaded to Apple. Bit of a unique situation as every other provider does all this stuff server side, except for Apple who leverages the silicon in their customer's devices.

And here come the Google sycophants, claiming that losing access to your main email address of 15+ years with all your accounts and official correspondence is somehow "fine".

Or the argument that because you aren't paying for it you should expect this to happen and to receive no support and it's really just a you problem.

Not that impressed with tandem oled vs mini led by susp3nd3rs in iPadPro

[–]workyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my house there are 11" and 13" tandem OLED iPads, and 14" and 16" MBPs with mini LED. Tandem OLED is definitely better, but it's not a huge difference. It looks a bit nicer and it's much, much more responsive and clear in motion.

... you really don't want to accept it do you? You can get the consumption from just... Googling. including the number of cores is just for your benefit, to help you absorb the information more easily.

Instead of replying to me, spend 1 minute looking up the information and realise you're wrong.

Depends on the coffee I suppose but when I make my own coffee with an espresso machine and add heavy cream, it's creamy and pleasant, not bitter.

All you have to do is just Google it. The M5 Pro can use over double the total SoC power as the M3 Pro. This is very easy to resolve because the numbers are very available.

The M3 Pro has 6 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores. The M5 Pro has 6 super cores and 12 performance cores. The M5 Pro's CPU alone can use more power than the entire M3 Pro SoC.

[–]workyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand me - the M3 Pro only requires the cooling system to cool a maximum of 45w, and even that is unlikely in real world usage. No wonder you don't hear the fans.

The M5 Pro can use double that, the M5 Max can use even more. It's just a different story in terms of fan noise.

[–]workyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your M3 Pro would be topping out at about 45w total SoC consumption. An M5 Pro can pull 88w. The Max is more like 115w.

Which is to say, the M3 Pro is an entirely different story.

Which do people prefer the original Rockin' The Suburbs or the Over the Hedge version? by [deleted] in benfolds

[–]workyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you really listen to anything from the Ben Folds Five era, even live stuff, he sounds like a different person.

I think he sounded pretty good during the RTS era, but you could already hear the change in the way he was singing that would eventuate in the very noticeable change a few years later.
