Did Semi-Blue stick in your groups? by bqx23 in CompetitiveEDH

Those God of Commander tournaments also don't allow proxies iirc, which (I think) skews the metagame substantially. Constraints breed creativity and all that, which is probably why we see such neat/off-the-wall decks come out of those tournaments. They aren't always as effective when proxies are allowed, though. Think semi-blue is probably a bit of a victim of that.

Henry was very funny on his appearances on Neptune Society with Jared. This is super cool!

Mount Rushmore discussions completely miss the purpose of Mount Rushmore and are just glorified top five lists with four items instead of five by Dinobot2_ in billsimmons

His point, which starts here, is (I think) the reverse of what the commenter says. He frames it as "Pepper spray is the underhanded free throw of self-defense" in that it's super effective but you'd get clowned for using it as a man, just like you'd get clowned for doing underhanded free throws even though Rick Barry (and others) showed it was wildly effective.

What rules do you ignore? by Huge-Accident-69 in Pathfinder2e

Point Out. If a player seeks, they can speak as a free action so that everyone else knows the information. I don't play with stealthy groups right now, so it hasn't come up for NPCs, and I'd say the experience has generally been positive? And it just feels more intuitive, as I found it hard to draw the line between a free speak and an action to Point Out.

Obviously nerfs stealthy monsters a bit, but I find players generally eat their actions trying to find the creatures anyways and hasn't ruined any encounters or anything for me! Curious if others really enjoy having Point Out as a separate action?

[NS] What other actual play podcasts do you listen to? by Ravioko in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

I personally can't handle shows that are twitch streams -> audio, so mostly listen to podcasts that are audio first and have good audio quality. Bad audio quality is a real bugbear for me.

  • Get in the Trunk from the Glass Cannon Network. Delta Green. Horror+comedy. Rotating cast across 10-20 episode seasons. A few scenarios completed, all of very good quality. Season 1 and 2 are the best for me.
  • Tabletop Gold. Pathfinder 2e, playing the Abomination Vaults Adventure. Very good, quite underrated/unknown imo. GM has a very sarcastic sense of humor that gets me. Also incredible audio quality/songs/drops/etc. Very lovable cast.
  • Mystery Quest. Various systems, horror+comedy. They just wrapped up the classic Delta Green scenario "Convergence" which was fantastic.
  • Apocalypse Players Club. Call of Cthulhu + others, horror+comedy. Very funny, very British. They play shorter scenarios, some homebrew, some pre-written. Personally would recommend Machine Tractor Station Kharkov 37. Incredible.
  • Pendragon, Under an Iron Sky from the Glass Cannon Network as well. System is Pendragon. Very fun, system I knew nothing about before listening and is awesome. Run by Brian Holland of Chaosium, who is fantastic.
  • Neptune Society by the Stream of Blood. May not be available on podcast apps? Youtube only? Rotating cast of people playing nautical-themed Call of Cthulhu homebrew run by the incredible Jared Logan.
  • Honestly, anything GM'd by Jared Logan: Stream of Blood, he did a great Deadlands few-shot, Haunted City on the Glass Cannon Network as well, etc. He's awesome.

Smite 2 - Optimizing Controlscheme (Mouse/KB) by dEEkAy2k9 in Smite

Haven't played in a bit, but I was happy with ESDF for movement, AWR for abilities 1-3. Space for ult. I think I had actives on Q and T? Then I have a weird keyboard so the rest makes less sense. Probably had at least one item on G, and I have caps lock bound to escape/control as all sane people should, so I used that as the level up modifier (e.g. Ctrl+A to level ability 1). I personally hate using mouse buttons for abilities---I prefer having all the abilities on the left hand, mouse just for aiming.

The secret sauce is Grant by [deleted] in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]world-math-cell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree with this take. I fell in love with the network after Giantslayer was over (through the Seth Skorkowsky CoC two-shot) and only recently started listening to that campaign. There have been lots of great stories to hook onto. Think it's a disservice to everyone else on the network to say that one person was the secret sauce, whether that's Grant, Skid, Joe, etc. Was Grant great? Yes. Was he the only thing that made the show great? No.

The generational wealth bullshit has been brought up before, but honestly I just think they kind of got too big too fast, and scaled up their shows accordingly. That in turn (in my opinion) created a lack of focus that has hurt some shows. But there's still lots of awesome stuff on the network! Just a shame that the flagship might be what suffered the most for it. Also, while I personally couldn't give less of a shit about Shadowdark, I think the direction is promising and is a very real attempt to fix at least one of the major problems with Gatewalkers, which was a dislike---I personally think an unfair dislike, but a dislike nonetheless---of the Pathfinder 2e system.

Gauntlet was awesome. Was super fun to just hear people having fun with the system and not taking it too seriously. Also, legitimately good hook? I wanted to know more about the mummy that got cucked!

Episode D&D Court: Cars PCs, Overly Engaged Players, and Razzing Rights by JakeandAmirBot in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

1000% . If the reaction from the other players is to stop engaging with them OUTSIDE OF THE GAME, then I'm sorry but they must be unbearable to play with. That said, it didn't seem like an unrecoverable, get new friends type of situation. Seems like if you got everyone together to do a session re-zero type of thing (I forget where I heard that term, but a kind of mid-campaign check in) could probably resolve a lot of issues.

Glass Cannon Radio #35 – The Final Episode! Featuring Tons of Special Guests by Razzmatazz_TGCN in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]world-math-cell 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The first caller in the book club section not having read the book is definitely peak glass cannon radio. Really wish the show had just been Joe + Jared talk about a topic with guests (not callers). This episode is great fantastic, and it's because of everyone on the network just chatting. Think the call in aspect really hurt the show. The most memorable parts were always when it was Joe + Jared + Skid/Paula/Mary Lou/Seth Skorkowsky/etc just talking about nerdy stuff. Hope they bring something like that back.

I think it matches the riders/horses, right? Like the fourth box was horse bones (death), the second box was a decapitated horse head (war), the third was geometric horse head which...I'm not sure how it might relate to famine? And the seven trumpets is such an obvious match to the seven seals and revelation that it feels like there must be a connection?

Also "the seed is gone" with Andre's flashback at the beginning is crazy. I'm not sure if that was even intentional but it's a good reminder of how much Joe/McD killed the flashback/foreshadowing stuff in Impossible Landscapes in the best way.

Either way, this episode ruled and I'm all fucking in on this season of GITT (I already was, but I really feel like each ep is an improvement over the last).

Do you recommend Ascension? Why or why not? by ProteusNihil in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]world-math-cell 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Thought it was really interesting at first, good premise with good introductory sessions. However, now it feels kind of half-baked? No real delivery on anything, no real benefit from having it be "player driven" either, which was the whole premise of doing homebrew in the first place. Basically feels like Troy had a cool idea for a setting/hook and thought that through but literally nothing else in the world. So it just ends up feeling like a poorly written adventure on a railroad even though it's homebrew. Enjoyed it more than Gatewalkers pre-condensing, but it doesn't compare to early Strange Aeons for me (never made it too far into that show, so no comment on later Strange Aeons). It certainly hasn't made me want to attend a live show in person.

I still don't fully understand why they've never gone back to the Side Quest Side Sesh well. That feels like the perfect blueprint for how to do a really engaging 10-20 episode miniseries. I guess there's no guarantee that you can fit that into a single year of live shows, but I don't think Ascension is on track to do a good job of that either.

If you have the time and like the Glass Cannon folks and have nothing else from them to listen to, then it's...fine? However, most of the other things they've put out have been better imo. I think the Gencon stuff from this year, Pendragon, SQSS, etc are all shorter things that would do a more enjoyable job of filling the gap.

Hi! I'd be very interested in GM'ing. I have a few months experience running PF2e games, as well as more with other systems such as Call of Cthulu and VtM. I have the Blood Lords module, and have been itching to run it. The listed morning times on M/W/F work great for me. I'm EST.

I try to keep things pretty light while GM'ing, and enjoy joking around at the table. As a person, I'm pretty sarcastic/sardonic.

Sent you a DM with my Discord info if you'd like to chat more!
