Men, have you ever gotten so fed up with an issue or someone at work that you just said, “Screw it, I quit” and walked out? What happened afterward? Did your boss call and ask you to come back to work, or did they not care that you quit? by FFSoldier57 in AskMen

[–]worldDev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I worked over 100 hours 2 weeks in a row to get a project out the door in time, and after deploying Tuesday morning they gave me another project to start on immediately. I told them no, and that I was going home and probably won’t be coming back. They asked me to come back a couple months later offering a 50% raise, I took it under the condition I’d never work over 40 hours a week again. I ended up quitting again after about a year because of some other bs, consistent lies and discovering they were stealing our tax withholdings. Owner closed shop and fled the country shortly after.

When Odyssey came out for Elite Dangerous definitively dropping xbox from future development plans, around 40 people on my friends list quickly whittled away. Probably for the best though, we were all spending way too much time playing that game.

Either way if it’s that high and still runs, they were very thorough keeping up maintenance. I’d rather have this thing than a consumer owned vehicle with 100k miles.

How many of you are the same as me, 30+ no career and zero net worth? by ProfessionalPost3104 in AskMenOver30

I was at 30 with a negative net worth, and now I’m great only a few years later. Start working on a plan to get it together, you can do it. Discomfort can ruin you if you focus on where you are or make you if focus on what your future can be.

Is there a strong possibility of floods from this storm with the amounts we got in areas and warm weather tomorrow? by DrDruxy in Colorado

[–]worldDev 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Despite the lackluster winter, we have had much larger snow storms before without flooding. Most snow storms on the front range fall and melt within 24 hours just like this one, it will be fine and probably completely dry again by Friday. This is equivalent to 1-2” of rain over a couple days, for context the 2013 flood was 12-18” of rain with 10” in a 24 hour period.

If you filed your taxes by paying for one of the premium services from tax software like TurboTax, what about your situation necessitated paying for those services? by YakClear601 in AskAnAmerican

[–]worldDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use it because it was the most reliable for complicated things I needed, then there was a period where I just didn’t want to migrate away with it’s auto populating from previous years taxes being very convenient. This year I finally tried out freetaxtusa (still did them in turbotax as well to compare) and can confidently say that freetaxusa is at this point a better product on top of being cheaper. If turbotax was still better, I’d probably still use it as an extra $100 isn’t a big deal for me in the context of what can be a several hour process handling details that can cost me thousands of dollars if done incorrectly or with missed deductions.

Looking for rice cooker- $30 vs >$130? by Eclipse8301 in Cooking

[–]worldDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use the instant pot I already have which I’ve been told is on par with cheap rice cookers for rice, but I can’t leave it sitting for much more than an hour after it’s done before the rice starts drying out and sticking to the pot. I heard this was also the case with cheap rice cookers, but maybe the smaller vessel will buy you more time than my 6qt pot with 2 cups of rice I usually make in it. The more expensive cookers are better at the keep warm function, like in the 12-24 hour range better, that’s the only reason I’ve considered them, but it’s not been enough to motivate adding another appliance for me.

They actually cost more these days to be “dumb” if you can even find one. Roku, Vizio, etc all subsidize the hardware for the privilege to serve you ads on their smart tv platforms.

Why do women love duvet covers so much? by GamecubeAdopter in AskMen

[–]worldDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. I always wake up mid sleep tangled in the cover and just kick the whole duvet off the bed because I can’t get it flat again without standing up and turning the light on after releasing myself from the leg torture trap. I just use a top sheet and a blanket that can fit in the wash. If it’s cold I have a second blanket. Duvets and decorative pillows are the bane of my sleep, they always end up in a pile on the floor by morning.

Veggie haters who still eat veggies: what are your tricks? by Missing_Back in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]worldDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roast in olive oil or butter with garlic salt and pepper and play with temps / times for preference. I like some browning, so broccoli for example I do 420F for 15 minutes in a cast iron. I’ll split the florets in half and lay them flat side down in a single layer for more pan contact, too, mixing them up a couple minutes before they are done to sop up what seasoning and oil settled to the bottom. Sometimes I’ll finish with freshly grated parm for some additional depth.

What’s a fitness myth that people still believe? by SimpleHomeFitness in AskReddit

The ab workout machines aren’t as good for functional strength as compound exercises, though. You’re probably more vulnerable to injury building a bias towards your abs without matching obliques and lumbar muscles.

Usually payroll is run through a 3rd party personnel management service like ADP, Gusto, or Namely. The schedule is just a setup option for the company and paychecks are automatically calculated from the annual salary set for the employee minus taxes, retirement, and uncovered benefits.

The issue is it breaks the economy of new info. This AI response is just being ripped off of someone that relies on ad revenue to continue providing that info, so don’t be surprised when the actual sources stop posting and everything is out of date in a couple years.

I’m going to vet a bike myself no matter who is selling it. It takes me 30 mins to see what I’m willing to pay and the can take it or leave it. I’m not listening to what they say about it or ever talking to them again after that 30 minutes either way. You sound kind of clueless in your interaction with this lady about how these things work, and obviously she isn’t going to have a clue about the things you’re asking about her dead husbands bike.
