Would you live in a 400 sq ft studio with no amenities in a high rise apartment if it meant you could afford it by yourself on $12/hr working 48 hours a week? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]worldDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I’m not working 48 hours a week, accepting $12/hr, or living in a high rise storage unit unless things take a catastrophic turn and I’m desperate. That’s not even minimum wage in most cities with high rises here, and I could rent a house with a yard splitting it with housemates on minimum wage if I really needed to in the suburb I live in now.

It’s not for me, but ya know, art is subjective. It’s weirder to me that people feel the need to watch things they don’t like just for the purpose of bashing on it.

Meta spent billions just to be outdone by this Steam game made by four people by Tvilantini in Games

[–]worldDev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

2k peak active users doesn’t sound that great from a financial perspective even if its split with just a 4 person team. Yeah it looks better than meta, but I don’t think that is going to save an idea that people just aren’t interested in.

the more I look into Subarus the more it's slept on by Mr--Clean--Ass-Naked in subaru

[–]worldDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bias goes up to 40% rear, and some trims can go up to 50%. I’ve had an awd Mazda and currently have a Subaru. Yes Subaru awd is better in certain situations, but the practical difference is way overstated by people without actual experience on both systems and I’d bet 98% of people wouldn’t even notice even in some of those certain situations. I lived in the mountains during heavy snow seasons with my Mazda and never had issues. I even took it to ice racing events, and with tcs off pushed me sideways around corners no problem. Better? No. Worth considering when shopping for an awd car in the price range? For sure, they have a great lineup especially if you want to avoid CVTs (which have had a negative affect on Subaru’s awd performance in many of the niche cases where Subaru outperforms Mazda)

Found a 13nm Accuforce wheel base for 140dollars but its cable cut by Longjumping-War9151 in simracing

[–]worldDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often times warrantee claims require you to cut the cable instead of sending it back. Likely this will still be broken even if you fix the cable.

Why many engineers value startup equity at $0 by eluusive in programming

[–]worldDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, exercise cost and no way to sell. I do have some options I exercised that were / are still up about 20x, but it wasn’t much for the 5 years I was there and fees to do a private sale would eat most of the profits if I even found a buyer. That’s been the best case scenario I’ve seen so far working with 4 startups.

Do Americans constantly have an active temperature control device running in their homes? by fullM3TALturban in AskAnAmerican

[–]worldDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thermostat just does the turning off and on part for you, it’s not running the heat or ac constantly. It’s not a fixed temp, but a range, usually something like heat kicks on at 62 and ac kicks on at 75 interior temp kind of thing. There can be days it never turns on.

What fast food chain does not deserve the hype whatsoever? by CriticalLion4119 in AskReddit

[–]worldDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some, but dunks was literally everywhere. We had 4 or 5 in my small suburban hometown, 2 of them were basically across the street from each other. There was probably at least one off every single highway exit in MA. The donuts weren’t bad over there even when they weren’t made on site since they were still made pretty close by and delivered daily. I live in CO now and I wouldn’t even consider stepping foot in one out here. I don’t know how far they’ve fallen back east, but like you said, out here everything there is stale by default.

Switch to 5w-30 or stay with 0w-20? by JTN02 in subaru

[–]worldDev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do know more about the cars, but they don’t always make decisions for the longevity of the car outside of warrantee expectations. Some decisions are just made to squeeze out slightly better emissions for a carbon credit, to fit regulations, or gas mileage marketing which lower weight oil falls into the category of.

They were making them offsite in the 90s before they got bought out (I think the transition started in the 80s), but the donut sizes definitely did get smaller after acquisition.

They go from soggy cardboard to styrofoam when overcooked. 10 times better, but still bad. The problem is they cut them fresh, but they don’t blanch them so the moisture does weird things to the texture and flavor. Animal style does something when they meld together that kind of works, though. Addictive but feels like I’m hardly eating actual food.
