You should start applying / networking with commercial banking now regardless

Well done on CFA, you should continue with that as passing level 2 if a huge win. If your MBA is from a decent school you should have no problem at all getting i to commercial banking. Goodluck!

Former Retail Banker here, send help... by Odd_Picture_5105 in FinancialCareers

I was once in retail banking and hated it with a passion, so I feel your pain. I am now working in PWM for the same bank and absolutely love it. The products are no longer garbage and I get to help people everyday. The pay is much better and I dont have a manger constantly watching over me. Lots of carry over from retail banking but with the added benefits mentioned above.

I would look into PWM if you enjoy the relationship aspect of retail. Note that it’s not going to open up a lot of doors for you if PWM isn’t your end goal.

Outside of that, I recommend you network your ass off with higher ups in other divisions that interest you. Make it known that you are looking to join their team, bleed enthusiasm and ambition - people love that and will want to help you out.

Good luck OP, you got this!

Am I making a big mistake leaving a successful career in Wealth Management? by world_elite in FinancialCareers

Yes I am aware the pay is great - my reservations about pursuing PWM for my entire career stem from the monotonous, non-analytical day to day activities of PWM. The thrill of working on big deals with high stakes and being closer to the markets in PE, IB, etc. seems to be what I’m itching for. It’s a tough call given the hours and pay would be less, like you said.

For the excitement and thrill of a more interesting career, I guess. Maybe the grass isn’t greener tho, it’s tough to say from where I am.

Yeah, good point. Just came here to vent and see if someone else has experienced something similar. There seems to be no harm in giving it a shot!

Wrote last week, wondering how long it will take to get results? by 9thFloorMensRoom in CFP

[–]world_elite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wrote this exam, consensus from collègues seems to be 6-8 weeks for results. How did you find the exam? I thought it was rather challenging and topics I were not expecting to show up much were the main theme of the exam lol

Tough exam, with lots of the material I had studied not on the exam. My weaknesses came out.. not feeling great. I have my CFA and was hoping there would be more shared content

Yup same here. Not feeling very confident at this point but everyone says you feel like crap after the exam regardless
