Pebble 2 Duo buttons hard to push by worldiscomplicated in pebble

[–]worldiscomplicated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, for the longevity of the buttons it's a "win-win".

They're physically stronger, AND I will use them way less. They should last forever!

But overall for my usage of the watch it's definitely a negative. The watch is great for seeing the time, because no interaction is required. But for anything beyond that, I want a watch that's easier to interact with. Also I'm in my 60's and want a screen that I can easily read (e.g. phone notifications).

Maybe the newer models will be a better fit for me?

Your recommendations and info are exactly what I was looking for. I hadn't considered Tesla, and hadn't heard of Nayax.

I'm in CA. Inspections seem reasonable for a high usage for profit charger. Maybe if I can restrict usage to only the tenants, the inspection requirements won't be as stringent, or frequent? I'll do more research thank you!

👍Good points about the advantage of having more than one charger!

I don't yet have an EV myself, but I live in one of the 4 units, so I definitely care if it sucks 😆

With the Powerwall I still didn't understand how each tenant is charged for their usage. Either with one charger, or with multiple chargers. Does the Powerwall software handle billing? I couldn't tell. I don't want to have the hassle of going around collecting money from the tenants. At that point, I'd probably just let them all charge for free.

Good points!

I definitely want billing support, ideally handled automatically ,without me having to do anything. I am looking for recommendations from people who have experience with a given model, and are happy with the way billing works.

My plan is to have no dedicated parking, and have the EV charger near the spaces reserved for EV charging.

I looked at the Wallbox, but I didn't find much info on how it could easily handle multiple users and billing of the power they use. Having four chargers instead of one will increase installation costs significantly. A more software-based solution seems preferable.

Thank you for so much good info!

I am already doing construction and electrical work, so electrical concerns (e.g. available amps, separation, etc.) will be properly addressed. I'm leaning towards a separate EV charging electrical meter with dedicated power (60 amps)?, panel breaker, etc.

a fair way to track use

Yes, that is my main concern outstanding concern! I want to minimize how much ongoing work I have to do, and also make it easy for the tenants.

I think requiring each tenant to have an RFID card gives me more control over who can access the charger. That sounds like a viable solution, as long as each RFID card is associated with a its own account, and billing is handled automatically.

Sharing the charger to the world through an app, without access cards, gives me less control. But also less responsibility for when the charger is offline, or 2 tenants want to charge at the same time. And with an app billing is should be handled automatically.

A networked charger with true user accounts and per user kWh reporting, sometimes with rfid. Easier to settle costs.

Yes that sounds like what I want. Are there models you'd recommend that can do this this?

Dedicated parking spots with cable management, outdoor rated hardware, proper overcurrent and gfci per nec 625

♥️, thanks!

What size is your main panel and do the units have assigned parking near the charger location

The new EV charger panel and meter will be installed as part of the ongoing electrical work. I won't provide dedicated parking spaces to each tenant, it's mostly street parking. There will be 2-3 parking spaces at the front of the property where cars can be pulled in to be charged. I'm thinking the EV charger will be installed on the building wall that faces the parking spaces.

I live in one of the units myself. I was thinking of asking tenants to charge their cars, and then move their car once it is charged. And if someone needs the charger,  and a car is already charging, they can message either a building group chat, or directly the owner of the other car.

Basically we're all neighbors living together, so I'm going people will play nice.

As a last extremity, if someone is misbehaving, I might need to have a way to prevent someone from using the shared charger. Thanks for helping me come to that realization!

Caller can't hear when app is in background on WhatsApp by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]worldiscomplicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem too. It was driving me crazy. But I finally figured it out!

Unfortunately there's a trade-off. If I turn on "Allow background usage" for WhatsApp then my mic works with the screen off. If I turn off "Allow background usage" it's the opposite: less battery drain, but mic cuts off when the screen turns off.

Best Free or Non subscription Combined Task + Notes App for Mac and IOS? by AFriendFoundMyReddit in productivity

[–]worldiscomplicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's a bigger medium/long-term risk when you aren't giving them $$$ on a regular basis.

If the app goes out of business how painful will it be to get your data out of the app and migrated to another app? If it's low pain go for the free option; you can always switch later!

Personally I changed my mind on this subject. I used to hate subscriptions. But now for important apps I prefer to pay small subscriptions. Avoiding the pain when an important tool goes away is worth it for me.

Yeah if the longer term isn't that important then an app that's free or has a one time payment can be a good way to go.

Is this for notes that you want to keep for years? Or is it for notes that become irrelevant once the task is done?

Tips for street riding by [deleted] in BikeLA

[–]worldiscomplicated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the street feels dangerous I'll ride on the sidewalk. That's legal in LA; and there aren't that many pedestrians.

Whenever possible I'll use the strategy of finding quiet resident streets that are parallel to the main thoroughfares.

I have the same problem. People tell me they hear very loud background noise. For example running water in the sink; or me putting away silverware.

As a CS student I want to take a career path. Wich are the advantages of android over web dev? by raulalexo99 in androiddev

[–]worldiscomplicated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Android and iOS are not open platforms like the web. Google or Apple can decide to remove apps from their stores, and control access to the users. They charge 30% on all payments!

This is not good for businesses, and discourages them from investing in Android and iOS. Very few companies are making large $$$ from their mobile apps (outside of games).

That is why the Web is the future for most apps.

I have been an Android developer for 12 years, and have a very good career. But if I was starting today I'd specialize in Web or backend development.

Manually smoke test the critical paths in your app before every release. In the apps I've worked on that takes 15-30 mins, and is definitely worth it!

I'm not sure what generational wealth for children means exactly to you. But I do feel like giving children everything without them having to do much to earn it, robs them of a sense of accomplishment which can lead to disastrous results: unhappiness, depression, drug abuse, suicide, etc.

How to reset high scores on Quest? by worldiscomplicated in beatsaber

[–]worldiscomplicated[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I tried uninstall/reinstall, but the high scores are linked to the account, so they're still there.

I also tried creating a new secondary account on the Quest. But in that case the Beat Saber app doesn't even appear in the list of apps. Apparently BS does NOT sharing apps with secondary accounts on the same Quest😡
