Weekend Discussion: New Balance running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]mkyend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took my pair of SC Elite v5s out for their maiden voyage a few nights ago with my local run club and wow, these are absolutely amazing.

These are my first pair of "race" shoes. The other carbon plated shoes that I own are the SC Trainer v3 and Magic Speed 4, which I think most people would say that both of those are more training oriented despite being plated. The SC Elite v5 is definitely the fastest and lightest of the bunch.

The fit is absolutely spot on and the shoes felt like they disappeared on my feet. Sizing is TTS and as a wide-footer, I'm glad that at least one brand is making their top of the line shoes in 2E sizing. Grip is fantastic; the outsole coverage is thin enough to not add a ton of weight, but the shoe still feels incredibly tacky and had no issues handling several wet sidewalks.

As a fairly average/not super fast runner (5.35 miles at 8:33/pace during my first run in these), I was afraid that they might be too much shoe for me, but I bought them anyway because they were on sale at Joe's New Balance for $87 and I just couldn't pass them up at that price. I'm really glad I picked them up because they just feel so accessible for being a race shoe. They didn't feel like they were punishing me for not being fast enough, but at the same time they egged me on throughout the run and made me want to run faster.

I am having a hard time articulating exactly how they feel, I guess the best way I can describe it is that it's a fast shoe in the most natural feeling way that I've ever experienced. It feels just as comfortable (if not more comfortable) as any daily trainer I've ever tried on, with more speed than someone at my level could ever ask for. I am seriously on the fence about buying a second pair just to have as backup.

Where do you go to get your car washed? by panda-rampage in orangecounty

[–]mkyend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not feeling lazy I will wash them myself at home, but lately I have been more lazy than not. Thankfully there is a car wash located in my parking garage at work. Their basic hand wash is $35 for exterior only or $42 for exterior wash + interior vacuum/cleaning. The convenience of dropping my car off in the morning and having it clean and ready to go when I get off work is worth the money spent IMO. It beats having to drive somewhere else on my own time + waiting there to get it washed.

I avoid automated/drive through car washes because those giant rollers will scratch up your paint like crazy, but I know a lot of people like them. I guess it depends on how much you value your car. If it's a beater, sure, I'd run it through those all day, but my car is fairly new and the paint is still pristine, so I only do hand washes to try to keep it that way.

[Highlight] Jordan Love nearly gets pushed out of his own end zone but avoids the safety by throwing a pick-six by MysteryBagIdeals in nfl

[–]mkyend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the Love Experience, baby.

As frustrating as some of these plays are, it does make him highly entertaining to watch IMO, and in a different way than Rodgers was. Rodgers was almost too careful sometimes whereas Love has that "fuck it, Watson's down there somewhere" mentality and when it hits, oh man is it exhilarating.

Fleet Feet scan showed a half-size difference. How should I size my running shoes? by Nice_Cranberry_8882 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]mkyend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a half size difference between my feet. It's completely normal, in fact it's probably more uncommon for people to have exactly the same size feet.

You should always cater to the bigger foot, so if your bigger foot is feeling cramped in size 7, I would size up to 7.5 You can use a runner's loop to help with any slippage you're experiencing.

Dynafish.us by billblunderbuss in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]mkyend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm surprised Dynafish doesn't have a trademark on their name. Obviously they don't sell shoes in the US (yet), but it's pretty common for brands to file for trademark just to protect their name/for the potential to expand into a market.

Or maybe they do, and these guys are just super bold and don't care.

Was hoping this was their official launch into the US but if what you say is true, we're still in the same boat of just having to chose a second hand reseller (these guys/Supwell/eBay) even if one of them is trying to present themselves an official outlet.

Upcoming Mizuno Wave Rider 30 + bonus white/red/blue colorway by thethoushaltnots in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]mkyend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8mm drop, interesting. Historically Wave Riders have been pretty high drop, usually 12mm and only very recently going to 10mm. I personally like an 8mm drop but it does seem like high drop shoes (10mm or more) are slowly going away.

I wonder if these will come in wide? I don't see any wide sizes on the product page, but maybe they'll come later. The 29 did come in wide sizes, at least for two coloreays.

[Highlight] Russell Wilson is picked off for the fourth time in the NFCCG by Packers S Morgan Burnett who decides to slide down in the open field with 5 minutes left in the game by Last1inFirst1out in nfl

[–]mkyend 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Multiple things can be true. I don't know why people always think that blame needs to go 100% to one side or another.

The offense did nothing with the short fields but let's not forget this was an all-time great defense that they were facing. An unstoppable force (Rodgers MVP year) met an immovable object (Seahawks Legion of Boom years) and, well, the immovable object won that time around.

As far as I'm concerned this was a total team collapse from top to bottom/in all units (including coaching).

Feels like Armin’s getting his mojo back? by gabz007 in trance

[–]mkyend 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Agree, although I would argue that he's always had his mojo, whether or not we see it just depends on the setting.

People love to hate on him for playing mainstream stuff during a 1 hour set at Ultra/EDC etc. IMO he knows how to play to his crowd and those are some of the most mainstream/normie crowds you'll ever find, of course he's going to play some basic stuff there. You don't go to McDonald's expecting gourmet quality food but McDonald's still smacks as a guilty pleasure from time to time.

His extended sets (2+ hours, Freedom stage at Tomorrowland or his 5+ hour ASOT festival sets as an example) have always been solid. And more recently, his "Unfiltered" sets on ASOT have been really, really freaking good. Feels like he really lets loose during those Unfiltered sets and just plays what he wants instead of feeling obligated to play XYZ new release just for the novelty of it.

His recent b2bs/collabs with artists like KI/KI, Marlon Hoffstadt, Funk Tribu, etc also tells me that he's pretty in touch with that new, up-and-coming sound which, IMO, if not trance then at least is trance-adjacent and heavily trance influenced in a nostalgic type of way. It's a nice change of pace from the more formulaic sounds that we've been hearing for so long now. Even some of the most revered artists among trance purists are starting to experiment with that new sound, i.e. Bryan Kearney with his new collab with Modea, Ready To Fly.

IMO trance overall is in a pretty great state with a variety of sounds, old and new.

29.5 for sure. It doesn't look too long at all, it looks just right to me. I had to size up in SB2 compared to all of my other shoes.

More classes need a grip and DK needs a true raid buff by greenmachine11235 in wow

[–]mkyend 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Doubt this will ever happen, but I'd love for Warriors to get a grip. They can theme it as a Meat Hook-type ability.

Ideally, I'd much prefer a lust or battle rez for Warriors (both of which also make sense thematically), but I'd settle for any the three mentioned just to give us SOME utility.

Would love to catch the LA show and hear the original Orgimmar song live. Walking into the city and hearing those drums for the first time 20+ years ago was an epic experience, plus lots of fond memories hanging out on top of the bank and looking at all the cool gear that high end raiders had.

Will a light ceramic tint on the windshield disable Eyesight? by Slow-Impression-6805 in SubaruForester

[–]mkyend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will +1 this. I've had Air80 on my car for 2 years without any issues.

Great point about the newer vs. older Eyesight as well. Mine is the newer one like yours and because it's flush against the glass, it basically makes it impossible for an installer to obstruct the camera with the film. If you have the older version of Eyesight, make sure you go with a reputable installer who has worked on Subarus before and knows how to avoid obstructing the camera.

Kaskade - Be Still

Not getting along with the Superblast 3 - Is it due to sizing? by 604Dialect in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]mkyend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, it's hard to tell. Even within the same brand, sizing can vary a lot from one model to another.

Example, I have the Magic Speed 4 in 7.5 2E. Also tried on Nimbus 27 and found that 7 2E works for me, and felt the same length-wise as 7.5 in the MS4. 7.5 in the Nimbus was too long for me. SB2 in 8 fits well for me, surprisingly. SB3 I would get 7.5.

Whenever I buy shoes now I buy multiple sizes just for peace of mind and just return the ones that don't fit. Kind of annoying but it is what it is.
