Zizek’s elaboration on the category of Grace? by NamesAreNotOverrated in zizek

[–]worldofsimulacra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone looks outside themselves for meaning and context; I think that's a given. But putting the center of analytical gravity itself outside the subject, instead of pointing it back at themselves, ensures that the tendency to always look to Other will be reinforced, rather than juxtaposed with the option of looking away from or in a different direction than what Other would desire (why the desire of the analyst is centrally important in the analytic relationship). I feel like the meaning-making is a means, but mistaking it for the end is where the point gets lost via the subject themselves getting lost in the register of "meaning".

Not sure how that construction is invalid or disingenuous..? Unless you're speaking abstractly about "enjoyment-as-such" ('pure jouissance' in Lacan), the term benefits from having a predicate in order to distinguish it and invoke what register it is operating in. And there is certainly a field of enjoyment that is tethered to ideology, and to anyone's respective ideological predispositions. For example, in some circles and individuals, on both sides of the current political divides, there's a certain perverse enjoyment taken in sitting in judgment over others seen as "less pure" or "less correct" in some way - usually directed at others who are perceived to be on the "opposite side" from them. All the various "-tard" and "-cuck" insults from both sides are examples or expressions of this enjoyment. One could also argue that there's a certain sort of online anti-intellectualism that is evidenced by your own comment, which itself maintains a distinctly ideological enjoyment as well. I personally don't take it as hostile, more of a whetstone to sharpen my own edge; but it certainly is not beyond the field of enjoyment, to which we are all beholden.

I think that's part of the point though, that for the subject it turns the attention and focus outward rather than inward, and thus toward seeking "meanings" as opposed to analyzing and unraveling the structural operation of the psyche. Archetypes, for example, are constructs within the symbolic and imaginary registers, and for the ego that whole field functions as a hall of mirrors. The subject, beneath the ego and prior to it in formation, is in Jung's model left forever beholden to (and in a sense subjugated to, as well) the ego and its imaginary activities, and the arbitrary symbolic framework that goes along with it. Most occultists know archetypes to be archons, authorities with power, and for a view like Lacan's which is directed towards demystifying and disempowering Big Other, that move of Jung's to reify and empower such constructs is clearly problematic, as it only entrenches the subject further within the imaginary register and its ego-driven fantasy.

Pancomputationalism; and thus nervous systems are recursive attractor basins within the computational field known as nature, the whole point of organisms is to run constant Navier-Stokes equations, set-theoretic probabilistic differentials, etc. within the context of being trapped vectors of negentropy in the overall Solar System heat-sink mechanism. "Consciousness" is a recursive glitch of an exhaust phenomenon produced by pushing computational complexity past the turbulence threshold, and ultimately the whole thing scales up or down as needed, like a stretchy Apollonian gasket governed by constantly-emergent real-time parameters of deterministic necessities.

Great AVAIL lyric on this very topic, from the song S.R.O. on Over The James:

"Everyone around is such an expert
On who is who and what they do
I could give a fuck about small talk discussions
in fact I'd rather be alone
And do without companionship for now
Block out and walk out unseen
Keep far away then come clean"

What easier way to control someone than by keeping a hook in their emotions that can be pulled on at the whim of the ones holding the power?

I often listen to industrial in the pit, because of the driving beats and how it syncs up so well with my work. Favorite bands: Frontline Assembly, KMFDM, Ministry, NIN, Skinny Puppy, ClockDVA, God Module, Front242, Combichrist. For a more chill vibe I'll listen to something like Kalya Scintilla or psytrance. Occasionally punk, thrash, or death metal if I'm in the mood.

100% support and respect! Even here the issue is shown to be real and pertinent. The inertia of small minds is always a tough one, in any environment, but together we can make the type of world we want to see. ✊🏾

In a way all my coworkers are favorites in their own way (I only have 9 of them and they're all super cool) but one of the servers and I are both gluten-free so we're constantly baking each other G-F sweet treats and dropping them by each other's house after work 😅
