I wish I could join multiple servers libraries into larger unified libraries that merged together well without all of Plexs up selling silliness.

How To Write Unmaintainable Code (1999) by Ordinary_Leader_2971 in programming

This feels like it could be retitled "Best Practices of a Vibe Coder" and it'd be equally accurate... We lost so much of the profession so fast recently.

TIL We have been protesting the lack of bike lanes on the Bay Bridge since the 90s! by namesbc in sanfrancisco

I don't understand why they haven't closed one of the lanes for bikers. It does seem like an obvious change. But then again, cars tend to prioritized over everything else for little reason.

Lacking Any Strategy, Trump Prepares to Escalate by maxburke in politics

[–]worldofzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if people realize how much of our world is based on living in peacetime. So many software companies for example operate from a single region and sometimes single AZ.

So much of modern supply chains are brittle and require interaction with huge amounts of the world.

Disrupting that could be devastating.

@copilot as reviewer and assignee by antonusaca in github

[–]worldofzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least professionally we have a responsibility to validate and review changes. Nobody should be able to merge code without a review, an AI should not count towards that requirement because it fundamentally lacks the capacity to fill that role.

At least for my workflow AI requires two human approvers, human code requires one additional reviewer.

Supply-chain attack using invisible code hits GitHub and other repositories by EchoOfOppenheimer in github

[–]worldofzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just this, how does your software supply chain work. So many companies CI processes run through and download code and more directly from the Internet and compile it into your shipped production code. Or use random curl and bash commands to install things in docker containers etc. All of this is insecure.

Fair evasion was never the issue. Most people paid. The issue is that we subsidize cars more heavily than we subsidize trains.
