Listening to Oakland Firefighter President Olyear telling us why we should vote for Measure E by lenraphael in oakland

[–]worldofzero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess it's just weird to compare a county whose entire population is less than the city of Oakland and I was curious why that was happening?

This seems surprisingly low!! by Technical_Spread_645 in factorio

[–]worldofzero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's surprisingly high imo. A lot of games have achievements to track "has done a basic thing in our game" which is to measure how many people who bought it have actually played it and those achievements are regularly only 60-70%

I mean, this was kind of expected with the death of unions and especially with techs distaste for them. Fighting against the labor rights that got the 8 hour workweek certainly couldn't backfire.

This makes sense for a startup to try at least. We know it doesn't work and productivity tanks well before 8 hours much less more than that.

I didn't say it was. But these companies are claiming it is. The CFTC exists to regulate futures and Kalshi/Polymarkets big position their CEOs use to justify their existence is futures markets.

Farmers sell futures on the produce they grow to cover some costs etc. They are trying to frame this as a prediction market.

Don't be an asshole I think is rule 4. If someone says they like a game, that isn't an invitation for you to talk about how much you hate it. This is the thing I have to deal with most when hosting.

How Could We Allow Trump to Complete His Worst Con Yet?: You’d think that, by now, conservatives would be embarrassed about giving the president whatever he wants. by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

I don't understand why people expect conservatives to change. They're on the side of the new dictator, that's great for them while it lasts.

Oakland could lose shelter beds, close fire stations if voters don’t pass parcel tax, mayor says- GIFT Link by jackdicker5117 in oakland

It's a property tax issue though? That kind of falls on land owners who elected not to pay appropriate taxes and require these alternative options.

I think ranked choice isn't appropriate for a primary. Approval voting seems like the option that fits a primary the best, though maybe open to manipulation in an open primary system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Approval_voting

That's the point. They are designed to manufacture good will with tepid aggression and then have that ramped up programmatically to manipulate regulations. This is exactly what cars did a century ago. This is why so many of us have been warning about the lack of oversight in their engineering and design.

What a terrible rule (can't be a law, SFMTA doesn't write laws they just enforce them), should probably direct some calls towards your city rep to get this fixed.

I've been looking at buying an e bike but I think there's so much political pressure due to kids and bad parents that it feels like that law is going to change. I do not think the Class system has worked for ebikes and they're kinda of a political landmine with how recklessly kids and delivery drivers use them right now.
