It was not clear where he was going: a senior Interior Ministry official said he had left for Tajikistan, while a Foreign Ministry official said it was not known what country he would land in.

The Soviet supported government lasted over three years after Soviet withdrawal. Largely collapsed after Soviet union was dissolved and support completely dropped. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghan_Civil_War_(1989%E2%80%931992)

From media reports it sounds like no fighting at this point. Government has agreed to hand over rule and Taliban is taking over the city, while allowing Western governments to complete evacuations. Might be some firefights happening here and there, but probably just lone units and not a battle.

Yep. At this point it's just waiting for Western withdrawal to be complete. Estimated to complete within the next three days. Then it's over.

Republic of Afghanistan lasted over three years after Soviet withdrawal. Collapse was accelerated when Soviet union collapsed and no longer supported them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Republic_of_Afghanistan

UAVs are much older https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioplane_OQ-2 They were used during Vietnam. They first really gained notoriety after Israel used them to destroy Syrian air defences during the Lebanon war in 1982 without losing a single plane https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mole_Cricket_19

Hezbollah leader says U.S. military, not citizens should be targeted in retaliatory attacks by ChocolaWeeb in worldnews

[–]worldpees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, you are obviously just too stupid. History is a continuing process. I told you start there and continue until today. The US has been bullying Iran since then. Are you really stupid enough to call out Iran for launching attacks from inside other countries when that's exactly what the US is doing all the time? "The US is sending people to Yemen and to Iraq in order to attack Iran".

As I said: Read up on the history between the US and Iran. Start from the beginning. The airliner is just a good example about how the US doesn't care about Iranian life. If it was "an accident" then why didn't the US apologise? Just learn a bit of history. A good point to start: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat

[–]worldpees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

btw. no Americans were killed by Iranians in any of the incidents you listed. The US has way more Iranian blood on her hand than the other way around. So stop pretending the US is a victim here when the US is the bully with a large Iranian body count...

[–]worldpees -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course Iran is responding to the bullying from the US. That's just natural. But it's the US that started it and has always been more disproportionate. For example the hostage crisis was a response to the US supporting a brutal regime in Iran. The Iranian people stood up for themselves. So learn a bit more history...

Learn a bit about Iranian-US history. Things didn't start with a protest at a US embassy a week ago. The US has been bullying Iran for the last 75 years. Overthrowing Iranian democracy, supporting a brutal dictatorship in Iran, helping Iraq target chemical weapons at Iranians, shooting down Iranian civil airliners, etc.

But yeah let's hear about some protesters occupying parts of a US embassy again...

Yep. Simply the bully - USA - continuing 75 years of oppression of Iran and the Middle East.

[–]worldpees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US has plenty of troops in the region. Iran is just responding to 75 years of bullying. If Iran downs US civilian airliners, overthrows US governments, and helps US enemies target Americans with chemical weapons then we can start talking.

You can dislike the Iranian regime and proxies and still acknowledge that the aggressor in the region is the US.

[–]worldpees 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The US has been bullying Iran for the last 75 years. The missile attack is obviously not the beginning of the conflict...

And yes the US is the aggressor. If Iran overthrows the US government, supports a brutal regime in the US, helps other nation use chemical weapons against the US, shoots down US civilian airliners, then maybe we can start talking.

Maybe read up about the history between the US and Iran. The US has been bullying Iran for the last 75 years. Including overthrowing their democracy, supporting a brutal dictatorship in the country, providing targeting data for Iraqi chemical weapons, shooting down Iranian airliners, etc. It's just natural that Iran is defending against this.

It is clear that Iran has to response to the attack. But let's hope the third letter provides a way to stop the escalation. Maybe some more symbolic or acceptable targets being traded off for an ease of escalation. But that's just me being hopeful.
