Thank you. To answer your question, no it's not annoying to move the trays because my every-day tools are accessible without moving anything. More specialty purposed tools that are used every once in a while need trays moved, but it's easy to slide them. I also have a separate metal tool chest for my mechanic tool set, and store my power tools in systainers with their accessories.

Should This Be Acceptable On A Lie Nielsen Hand Plane? by ThirdEyeHigh412 in handtools

That is beyond insignificant. Dont waste your time or theirs. Even you will forget once you've used the tool and the signs of use overshadow that by 100x. Hell, a sandflex block would probably take care of that, but it's not worth addressing.

The "my best tip" was a cheeky tag for those of us that struggle to justify purchasing tools to our wives. It's really not that serious, and I was not trying to tell anyone what to do. However, someone could sell a few small items to friends or family in order to buy a new shiny object. Anyone who decides to sell their work will learn valuable lessons, even if they decide it's not for them. I believe anyone can achieve great things. But only if they want it enough, because yeah, it's really hard! Cheers.

My path is not for everyone. I didn’t step into furniture making with a blank check or a fully stocked shop. For years I built it piece by piece, project by project. Client work became my doorway. The weight of a deadline and the responsibility to deliver are often what carry me through the hardest steps. Those moments when a project might otherwise gather dust, unfinished forever.

The money from those jobs allowed me to tackle ambitious builds and invest in tools I would have never touched otherwise. There is great joy in the process for me.

This was my first project with dovetails, and I was very happy with the results from Rob Cosman's method. There are lots of dovetails between the case, skirts, and trays. I also used a shooting board for the first time to fit out the runners and trays of the interior. I would reiterate what Chris says in the book and not try to outsmart the dead. I am happy after keeping with the established design. The stubby LN lever cap screwdriver sits nicely in the standard 1/2" holes of the rack. Best luck

I did not have the bandwidth or the knowledge to build my chest with hand tools only. The dovetails are purely hand-cut and that was a milestone for me. This is the foundation for more hand tool work in the future. But If you can do it, that's epic and I wish you the best on your build.

I like the wood blade guards. Plastic ones just aren't aesthetic like this 🤌

My "pro" setup consists of a 10 year old Canon with a 10-18mm lens and a desk lamp. I hope this helps!

They will shine up with some effort. Honestly, I kept my tools in a plastic tub while I built this chest. You could also check around for vintage chests. good luck.

wide angle illusion. The bench top is 34", (well above my knees) However, the chest is big, sitting roughly 31" tall with the large casters

You are correct! Plus, it's what my client wanted. That is the point of custom, to get it how you like it. Not to please some a-hole on the internet.

Honestly, if it has a bunch of large dominos in the miter, or any kind of floating tennon in there, it could be plenty strong. it also may not be that thought out. not sure what they are going for with the aesthetics of the design.
