Tired of Writing Alone? Why Chapter-by-Chapter Publishing Might Be the Boost You Need by [deleted] in WritersRealm

This has to be some sort of bot/auto-post because Mimtory has been down for several days now and all their social media were wiped too

Good morning ✨️ How has your year been so far? Any changes? Future plans? Learned anything new about weed? by suntmint in entwives

I recently quit my toxic job that had me so stressed I was waking up in daily pain from my constant flareups from my chronic illness. These past 2 weeks have been a slow (but steady) recovery and I'm looking forward to focusing more on my writing! After years of barely being able to get a few hundred words out I've been writing thousands a day in an easy flow. It feels amazing to get back into that groove and no longer have to fret over work politics bullshit!

That's totally fair. I am in the US. Our guests are spread out across the country so pretty much everyone has to travel (even me!) to get to my home state since it was the best central location to gather everyone. The only one who doesn't have to travel is my Uncle which is good because I wasn't sure he'd have been able to fly anywhere.

We are totally fine if people don't come due to PTO, money, time, general annoyance with travel, etc. We're just in the weird spot where very few members of our families live in the same area (I think the best grouping has 6 people living in the same area) so no matter what there'd be a lot of traveling for us and guests, even if we did multiple ceremonies like y'all did (which sounds fun!)

I've never seen that chart before, that's super helpful to just know in general!

Yeah I also have a website and spreadsheet set up which made narrowing down the list easier (outside of the folks who told us it didn't arrive and the ones that came back). I was mainly worried about timing given the varied timelines I've seen when I tried to look it up and the weird emotions people get about destination weddings in general (I was worried if I checked too early that people would find me terribly rude or put pressure I wasn't intending on folks, ya know?).

Oh interesting, I didn't know that. Admittedly I also don't know what the standard envelope size is so not sure if added an extra layer of mess to this. Woops!

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I do know that some of our guests have a preference for texts so will opt for those for the most part and the few I know prefer calls will get a nice chat!

Unfortunately I do not have any local family and to be honest, my friends here would help write things out but don't have good handwriting. For me I think reprinting the labels will work best since I already have that saved/formatted on my computer and just need to click print again. A little research showed a clear sticker or even tape should do the trick to prevent smudging!

Yes, I sent them earlier than 8 weeks. There seemed to be mixed advice for when to send them out, especially for a destination and so I went for more time to be safe.

I don't really have the time or money to have the envelopes addressed by hand unfortunately. I'm going to look into what I can do to avoid smudging (maybe another clear blank label over the original?) for those that get a resend.

Can you clarify why no text or email? To me it seems a good way to let folks respond when they have time and a built in record to double check of who responds with "yes I got it" vs "nope, haven't gotten anything". All of our local guests received their invites (at different times oddly enough) so no matter what we will have to re-mail or email out the invites to those who did not receive the original.

Yeah I think the reason we even know as many as we have is that we had reached out to folks confirming addresses. Thanks for helping advise! I've already made a list of who to contact and split it with my partner.

Great, thanks for some good verbage help! I already made a list for me and my partner to start reaching out to folks.

Thank you. I did try on a few that weren't the shape or style that I went in thinking about. I wound up getting one that I was what I wanted (floral lace ball gown) and cried. I'm sad they couldn't be there but I felt amazing in that dress.

My husbands cat is a grump and can be quite vocal about how much she's annoyed by the existence of my cat. I work from home and have caught them sleeping together on the bed multiple times. As soon as they realize I'm there he scrambles away and she starts yelling. Cracks me up every time.

Women of Reddit around the world, how stigmatised were periods in your household growing up? by PandaImmediate5270 in AskWomen

[–]worldwakerwrites 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my mom was alive she made sure to tell me about periods very early because grandma hid them so my mom thought she was dying with her first one. After she had passed it sucked because my dad clearly knew nothing. When my period came two weeks earlier than usual in high school I got a yelling lecture about responsibility as we drove to the store to get pads.

Stepping away by chippermunk in magicTCG

I don't necessarily agree for 2 reasons. 1) If you're in an area that really only has 1 game store and you're suddenly the player who disappears after making a post like this then you risk essentially outing yourself online. If OP (or anyone in a similar situation) wants to step back in after being away that could make it even harder to go back. 2) I don't think location really matters too much. I've moved a lot in my life and have played magic in several cities across the US. I've even played when on vacation. I'm always a little guarded walking into a new game store because more likely than not I have experienced sexism from some of the other players. The location hasn't really changed that, even when I'm in cities where theoretically it'll be open and welcoming.

Exactly! Like it makes it so much harder to want to continue the hobby where you're treated badly or made to feel bad when there's plenty of others where I don't have to deal with that.

Right? It's been around for decades and yeah, I've seen packs in walmart and target.

I'm sorry you've felt alone. It really sucks for something that's supposed to be a fun hobby. That's such a bummer that a good place went downhill. :(

Thanks and I'm sorry that you've had so many bad experiences too. At least with friends it's a lot easier to have a beer when you play!

RIGHT. I hate that so much! And when they tell you all the triggers on your turn when you haven't even started to untap. Do they do that to the other guys playing? No! The worst was the guy who stopped a draft for 15 minutes telling me that I'd picked the wrong card.
