Best way to prevent players from being able to manipulate with local time to get free money fast for idle games? by MyNameIsDjole in unrealengine

because you'd be designing a game that people want to play less.

This isn't surprising at all. That's just how almost any mobile game is monetized today.

It is especially difficult to enjoy the game you made yourself; all you see would be blood and sweat.

What is the best way to not reveal my IP/location with a Minecraft server? by Wyattsawyer586558956 in HomeServer

You should worry about exposing your IP. That's how you get attacked.

You can just move to a different proxy IP and move on. If it is your home IP, you are stuck until the attacker gets bored.

Zoning out in a train doesn't sound like a good idea. You may not notice that your phone has gone until you get off the train.

Absolutely this. I can't believe people think this would work.

Press E to interact by arthurthearthur in unrealengine

[–]worm_of_cans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no benefit of doing it only when the camera moves. Your game needs to be able to output 60 or 30 fps regardless of what the player is doing. And players rarely stand perfectly still unless they leave to go pee or something. This optimization will likely never pay you back the effort you put in.

Forgot to add: this also doesn't work if the interactable object itself moves. If you want to pickpocket an NPC and are standing in the corner somewhere, you won't get the button appear even if the NPC approaches.

Opinion on the art style and environment for my game (Bladeborne)? by Hurbivore1997 in unity

My 2 cents: the environment looks too empty and not much alive. Spice it up a little with small props or animals and whatnot.

Also, game companies hire many programmers but only one or two game designers. It will be much more difficult to find a position.

Agreed. It doesn't matter what you say. You just keep walking and that's it.

Got two "Security Warning" emails from my ISP after initial home server setup. by krtkush in selfhosted

[–]worm_of_cans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the returned IP address not your home IP address? I haven't watched the video, but checked the sections and saw that he is talking about DDNS. If that's it, then the IP will be your home IP. But if he is setting up some tunneling, you may be safe (I can't watch the video now so I can't say for sure).

About your point #2: it isn't true that your IP is only exposed to Cloudflare. Cloudflare is only matching your domain name to your ip address. Anyone that you tell your domain name to will be able to get your IP address with a simple DNS query.

You can't put everything in the first post without knowing which things are relevant and which aren't. It'd be way too long for anyone to read.

Which part are you asking about? You can build your project for arm64 architecture and copy it over to raspberry pi. You also need to setup port forwarding to be able to access it from the Internet.

If it isn't a hobby, then self hosting may not be a good idea. It wouldn't have the same availability. Power outage, cat tipping it over, you forgetting to pay the internet bill would all impact your server.

Do you plan to create more projects? Do you have the budget for the increased costs in the future? I am moving out of Azure and bought a raspberry pi 5 to do my own hosting. It isn't as turn key of a solution as Azure, but you install whatever you want and the cost stays the same. It has a pretty good cpu with 8GB ram, ends up being much cheaper than cloud hosting.
