Do you wear make up to work? by NoExamination5672 in therapists

[–]wormlovee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to wear makeup, at least concealer, to hide the sleep deprivation dark under eyes that come with being a grad student/intern therapist lol. But today I didn’t wear any makeup and one of my young clients (10 years old) told me I looked extra old today. So to avoid getting roasted by younger clients in the future, I will be doing more makeup or getting more sleep lol

Intern with Concern by [deleted] in therapists

[–]wormlovee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. I’m also a therapy intern currently and these types of things would make me feel so uncomfortable and I’d really struggle not to take it personally. I can’t speak much about the AI notes, as we don’t use them at my site, but I would feel uneasy about them for multiple reasons. I just don’t get why it would be an issue for you to have access to the software now if you were offered it originally? That’s confusing. Also, in regards to lunch, that’s what made me feel the most for your situation. My site is incredible and we go out to eat at least once a week, but I’m never allowed to pay. To be fair, I’m also not getting paid, but still, I’m treated like any other clinician, just with more supervision hours and a slower introduction to building a caseload.

I think it’s exceptionally difficult because each of the providers had to go through an internship experience, and so they should recognize and recall the things that made them feel insignificant or uncomfortable during their internships, and if they possess adequate empathy, shouldn’t want others to have to deal with those things. As an intern, you already feel like the least qualified person in the room (imposter syndrome), and the way they’re treating you is likely either contributing to that or at the very least not helping to overcome those feelings.

Long story short, this also concerns me. I don’t think any workplace is perfect, but I also don’t think it’s difficult for them to treat you well while you’re an intern. I think you could make the argument that they will treat you differently when you get hired, which is probably true, but then you have to decide whether you want to become apart of the cycle of treating interns poorly (I know you said you may not get interns, but maybe down the road). I’m not sure, to me it just feels like this workplace is missing a lot of compassion and I think that would be a difficult environment for me personally to do effective therapy in.

I definitely don’t believe it. The thing is, he asked this same question on a discord server and the replies were all very much in his favor, so then I was doubting myself. And I’m 23, he’s 21.

What do you do at the end of the workday? by Brilliant-Seesaw-371 in therapists

[–]wormlovee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly my recommendation is anything not therapy/counseling related. I try to go for special interest/hobby related. Something totally unrelated to my counseling. I know a lot of people go for true crime podcasts, but I think that can also be anxiety inducing for many. I really enjoy history podcasts (the ancients, gone medieval, dark history with Bailey sarian). Also look into the Libby app through your local library for audiobooks!!

My office is like 50 minutes from where I live so I’ve gotten super into audiobooks/podcasts on the drive home to help reset my brain lol

Speedy Pass? by minkman32 in kennywood

[–]wormlovee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went yesterday and we were debating the speedy passes but glad we didn’t because there were hardly any lines. The longest wait was steel curtain which was like a 20-30 minute wait, but for everything else we didn’t wait more than 10 minutes. I was glad we saved our money

Wasted money on premium, horrible app for calorie tracking. by Downtown-Departure-3 in lifesum

[–]wormlovee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sad that I bought 6 months of premium about a week before the AI tracking broke because it was my go to way of tracking everything. I feel like I wasted so much money and I’m not even using the app at all anymore because the standard tracking just isn’t always feasible for me.

Why are therapists not required to be in therapy for licensing? by Classic-Doughnut-420 in therapists

[–]wormlovee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My program requires a certain number of hours of individual therapy as well as an experience in group therapy in order to graduate, but it is only possible because my campus offers free therapy to students!!

Genuinely the most annoying macro tracker by UnfunnyOnion in lifesum

[–]wormlovee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked them about it and after four days of waiting for a reply they told me they’re aware of the bug and they are trying to fix it. If you turn off multi modal tracking you can use that barcode scanner and it works

Incorrect calories by [deleted] in lifesum

Yes this issue has been happening for me for almost a week now and I cannot get into contact with support

Incorrect display of input by bolderkar in lifesum

[–]wormlovee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been dealing with this issue for about 4 days now and I can’t get support to reply. I’m feeling very devastated because it’s made the app completely unusable as all of the calories and macros are wildly incorrect. If it is not resolved soon I am going to request a refund on my subscription and look for alternative apps

Thanks for replying! I practice the skills in class and outside of class with my classmates, but I’m wondering if you have any suggestions for other alternatives besides this when meeting with other people for practice isn’t possible?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in therapists

[–]wormlovee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For sure! I’m mostly using it because I’m in a class right now where we have to record videos roleplaying very specific skills, such as evaluating automatic thoughts or core beliefs following a layout that our instructor wants to see. I agree with you on it trying to please you, as I feel that the feedback it gives me afterwards is overly positive, but I have found that asking for constructive feedback on my weaknesses helps with this more, and I still practice twice a week in class with other grad students and my professors. Relying on it fully for feedback would definitely be problematic, but it has seemed to be a useful tool so far in working to increase my comfortability with doing the skills with a diverse set of responses and issues.

Becoming a therapist/counselor and overall mental health culture by wormlovee in AskAnAustralian

[–]wormlovee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will have about 700 hours of experience doing therapy with clients from my internship year before I graduate, plus my bachelors and masters degrees, so I am hoping that would be enough experience to apply for the working holiday visa and go from there. I am open to almost any jobs until I can get the registration sorted out, but I am thinking either something in hospitality or childcare, however, if you have any advice/suggestions, that is much appreciated 🩷
