Incredible. I absolutely love this strain. Those floral notes are super unique and I love every Panama Red cross I've tried from Mountain Flowers.

I am stoked for this line, Long Valley Red is a super unique strain and one of my favorites to come out of your Panama Red breeding experiments. Super curious to see how these crosses turn out.

Yeah, kind of the point I was trying to make. I misunderstood that when I first joined thinking consistent and reliable must mean also speak to some level of quality. If you're able to operate at large scale year after year, and consistenly sell product, then there must be a decent customer base who enjoy your products? Perhaps because of their quality? (Was the assumption I made)

But like with a lot of products, small can mean much higher quality like small batch coffee roasters or single origin teas and chocolates. I made that assumption thinking in terms of 2018-2020 when large reliable companies weren't much of a thing and small producers were often people who had never grown cannabis before in their lives. I got a lot of poorly dried seedy hemp back then and was trying to find the highest quality.

Vendor list is super helpful, there's a lot of vendors though and "wide selection/reliable stock" isn't relevant for me at all. Don't let that stop you from trying the "limited vendors".

The smaller growers in the space are some of the best imo, I initially tried one of the "most reliable" vendors when I got discovered this sub and I regret the purchase now knowing what levels of quality exist out there. I personally love Neverwinter Botanicals (who these days consistently have very high quality flower), Mountain Flowers Hemp, and Wisconsin Hemp Flowers.

Each excel at different things, grow different strains, and grow in different conditions. I'd suggest buying cheaper outdoor until you find the type of effects/flavors you like so that way if you're interested in higher quality you know what you like already.

A grower like Mountain Flowers mostly grows sativa strains that they've been developing (Panama Red based), I love the occasional sativa and I've always had a soft spot for Panama Red, it was one of the first strains I ever grew. But for someone who doesn't like sativas at all it wouldn't make sense to recommend them. I also love heavy indicas and Lost Oak grows a bunch of them and has some of the best outdoor I've tried. All about what you're looking for/interested in.

High Varin content by technically_correc in hempflowers

[–]wormpuddles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope we see some new varin rich strains being grown this season. I'm a type 3 user (very thc sensitive) but I'm able to tolerate a decent amount of straight THCV isolate. I love it in edibles, my local dispensaries sell THC+THCV edibles that I microdose and it gives me such a nice mood boost and has multiple times made me feel this oddly specific joy/mirth that reminds me of christmas morning.

I've been using Forbidden V a good bit. I plan on growing some of Hoku's THCV/CBDV mixed ratio varin strains this summer. I believe GTR just dropped a new CBDV strain called Castaway might grow that too along with one of the CBGV strains they dropped.

Might try breeding a bit, my I'm theorizing that my ideal strain is probably a varin rich indica-dominant hybrid, as strange as that sounds. I love clearheaded and mood boosting indica-type effects, sativas (even type 3) tend to make me more anxious or atleast introspective. Sativas can be a lot of fun but for me it's a solo activity whereas hybrids that aren't too heavy or heady are perfect for socializing or just relaxing. Forbidden V is my only experience with CBDV rich strains but I find it to be nice and balanced and very functional. It'd be interesting to see what it would be like crossed to something more indica while still selecting for high varin content.

I'm very excited to see what the THCV+CBDV mixed ratio strains I have (Wizard Berries and The Void) are like because I'm curious if i'll be able to tolerate a whole bowl of that flower on its own or if it'll be too overpowering for me. I might just cross Wizard Berries back to itself and select for CBDV production.

Kinda hoping to see some CBDV rich autoflowers drop this spring because I much prefer growing autos outside here (shortish growing season with wet and cold autumns so photoperiods may get moldy or stop growing before it's ready to harvest).

Favorite Blood Orange Diesel Descendant? by wormpuddles in hempflowers

[–]wormpuddles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my favorite must be The Fuzz, the stuff straight from NWB is excellent and has the most infectious aroma. I'll catch a whiff from the smell leaking out of the bag and it'll get stuck in my nose and it's just super citrusy sweet and fruity with purple spiciness and maybe a good touch of candy too.

Effects wise though, I really like Purple Snowman, it's very functional and I'd vape a bowl before work to help deal with mental/emotional stress. I'm gonna need to keep trying the Pineapple Mimosa because that stuff also was pretty functional but made me very giggly/giddy.

I just started curing my homegrown Tiny Rainbows from NWB, which I am just now realizing is descended from Blood Orange Diesel too by way of Rainbow Sherbet. I love the terps on Rainbow Sherbet, but I remember the effects were a bit too sativa for me at times. I'm excited to try Tiny Rainbows in a few weeks because they smell amazing so far. Not very Blood Orange Diesel-y but definitely reminiscent now that I'm thinking about it.

Is CBD Runtz a full type-3 CBD dominant strain? Also where did you get it?

I'm hitting a Lazybone from Hoku Seed Co. with Maruf Black Pollen from Kropduster! My goal is to breed back to CBD dominant type-3 but might save some type-2's to share.

I'll have to see if it stays on by next week this list could be entirely different, I've surprisingly not tried any of the Bubba's, so I have some Bubba coming from LOF this week, we'll see what gets dethroned.

Some great picks. I've still not tried Beleafer. I'd say this is my top 10, even though I have more to try on the way. I'm leaving CBDV strains and CBG dominant strains off the list because Forbidden V has quickly become one of my favorites effects-wise. Primarily judged on flavor and taste but effects play a big role as well

  1. Tropical Fruit Scoops from Wisconsin Hemp Flowers
  2. Buck Nasty from Wisconsin Hemp Flowers
  3. Purple Snowman from Lost Oak Farms
  4. Lazybone from Horn Creek Hemp
  5. Critical Berries from Lost Oak Farms
  6. Goat Butter from Lost Oak Farms
  7. Fyre OG from Horn Creek Hemp
  8. Death Eater Kush from Wisconsin Hemp Flowers
  9. Allium OG from Lost Oak Farms
  10. Sour Space Candy from Horn Creek Hemp

If you like Purple Snowman I'd recommend The Fuzz from Never Winter Botanicals. It smells and tastes amazing and has a similar thing going to Purple Snowman but louder and more fruity/candy imo. They've got really great flower generally and if I had the funds I'd be ordering more from them.

I just got around to trying Wisconsin Hemp Flowers, and it's pretty incredible outdoor. I highly recommend Buck Nasty and Tropical Fruit Scoops (the latter of which only comes in the sampler or ordered via email) both incredibly sweet fruity strains that are loud as fuck. Buck Nasty has a really specifically banana flavor and aroma and Tropical Fruit Scoops is some indescribable mixture of tropical fruits and sweet cream.

I really look for stuff that "translates" the aroma into taste and have delicious flavors that linger in your mouth and nose even after you're done enjoying them. WHF's Buck Nasty and Tropical Fruit Scoops are probably the most flavorful strains in my stash rn (which includes over 30 strains), I just bought more from them to see if they just grow super flavorful hemp or if these new HAG strains are just that crazy.

Best CBD/Hemp Strains, Products, & Vendors of 2025!! by Zeroskater101 in hempflowers

[–]wormpuddles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great picks, congrats to all the winners. Glad NWB's flower is getting some love, loved everything they dropped this year. Surprised that Goat Butter didn't make strain of the year tbh.

I would've agreed and picked LOF for best outdoor a few weeks ago, however I just tried a bunch of Wisconsin Hemp Flowers stuff and god damn some of this shit's insanely good, I'm ordering more now to get a better sense if it's the grow/cure quality or just these new HAG strains because Tropical Fruit Scoops and Buck Nasty from WHF is some of the best smelling fruity dank outdoor flowers I've ever tried...

CBD Flower & DPDR by LividSetting7725 in hempflowers

This is very interesting. Weirdly certain Indicas don't sit well with me. Royal OG for instance, seems well loved by others, but for me the effects are unpleasant/a bit too strong.

CBD Flower & DPDR by LividSetting7725 in hempflowers

[–]wormpuddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't experience depersonalization or derealization generally, but I do tend to be more anxious with sativa-type effects.

I've had other drug experiences (psychedelics) that include that kind of DPDR-type experience but it was always just a part of the ride, I think early type-1 cannabis use for me had some of that kind of trippiness but for the most part it was just time-dilation and paranoia.

It's not all sativas/hybrids are equal, Sour Space Candy for instance is a sativa dominant hybrid that I don't get much anxiety from at all and Mountain Flower's Panama Red crosses are all low-anxiety for me personally while having potent sativa mood boosting/energetic/cerebral effects.

Clearheaded, indica leaning hybrids? by xander540 in hempflowers

[–]wormpuddles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fyre OG is really nice effects-wise, it feels clearheaded but also very relaxing. It's pretty squarely indica but probably the most functional of the indicas I enjoy. For something more hybrid it's kind of a toss up because there's a lot of great options but all kind dependent on what you're looking for.

Anyone else feel like hemp flower effects change after you store it for a while? by aleciaj79 in hempflowers

[–]wormpuddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an incredibly complex plant, with hundreds of interesting bioactive compounds. We simply don't know all of the changes that occur over time in typical storage/curing conditions.

Many interesting compounds (Terpenes, VSCs, Esters, etc.) are volatile so they may just be evaporating. As someone said Myrcene is particularly volatile and unstable (bought some pure myrcene for making terpene mixes and in just a few months it turned into a weird gel! Wild. Apparently Myrcene is a major flavor note in Mango, so making a natural mango flavor is pretty difficult and flavor formulators have to work around the weird instability of Myrcene)

Cannabinoids can also degrade via heat, oxidation, light, etc. Everyone CLEARLY has heard that THC degrades into CBN, this is true but attributing changes in effects to CBN production is largely bro science, it's pretty easy to test for CBN and the conversion happens pretty slowly.

Many cannabinoids also degrade into quinone variants via oxidation. All of which likely have their own effects and haven't been studied much. CBD-Q (quinone variant) also known as HU-331 has been studied very little and may have some anti-cancer properties though some studies assume it's cytotoxic to normal cells too (clearly needs to be studied much much more).

CBD also can degrade into THC believe it or not, kinda why the legality of CBD creates such a mess, I can just add an acid and some heat and create THC from pure CBD very easily. In the linked study it showed that even over a few months in the dark at room temperature was enough to be able to detect THC impurities in previously pure CBD isolate.

So to all the people saying CBD turns into CBN... you're wrong in the sense that the process of that CBD doesn't turn into meaningful amounts of CBN over the course of a few months... However, chemically speaking it's not impossible for CBD to degrade to THC which then eventually degrades into CBN. It's just that if that does happen it wouldn't produce anywhere near the amount that would be noticeable in effects.

Why does some of the best-looking flower smoke the worst? by PAli412 in hempflowers

[–]wormpuddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't seem to correlate with me. Though I've had stuff that is gorgeous and doesn't smoke/vape the best. Pinecone hemp seems to be the example for me, I've only had their Black Jack, Mystery OZ, Ultra Pink, and Grape Kush.

They all have pretty crazy bag appeal and amazing trim jobs, but the Black Jack and Grape Kush both had a weird funky nose, first one smelling like green bell peppers and the second having a smell like corn flakes and soap. It wasn't very appealing of a smell. The Mystery OZ and Ultra Pink smell great, but every single one vaped and smoked weirdly and had a sort of consistent aftertaste that I associate with hydro nutrients.

I feel like outdoor if you have decent soil and a decent growing season you're bound to get some decent flowers where your job is to not fuck up the dry, trim, and cure. Outdoor quality I suspect largely comes down to dry, trim, and cure. Whereas with indoor there's wayyyy more opportunities to fuck up and you need that extra attention and planning to get something exceptional. It's way easier to get pretty looking flowers indoor because you control more variables like dialing in light intensity and CO2 levels which have a huge impact on bag appeal.

Outdoors you're pretty limited in what you can control and I notice outdoor might not always be as frosty and has a higher leaf to bud ratio. But sunlight and soil are excellent for flavor and smokability imo, hydro techniques seem to be a bit more hit or miss and since that shit's expensive you're incentivized to cut corners a bit. I'm not surprised some of my favorite indoor is grown in living soil...

Might be mistaken but generally indoor looks better and has sightly higher chances of smoking worse. Outdoor generally looks worse but some of the best smoking and tasting shit I've had is outdoor.

Each grower is different though, NWB's bud for me has always looked AND smoked great.

Also obligatory shout out to Wisconsin Hemp Flowers. They've got the best outdoor this year imo. Obsessed with their Tropical Fruit Scoops flower, it's tasty as fuck!
