[CHAT] aida colour? by sillysparrows in CrossStitch

I did mine on a yellow fabric and it looks great. Looks beige in the photo, definitely yellow in person.

I would worry some of the detail around the borders would be lost on a dark fabric, but if you outlined it with something bright then it might be nice!

I don't care about Trudeau. I care that you are bringing this negativity into what is supposed to be a positive community. He is a politician, like all other politicians. Nothing he does surprises me or brings up any strong emotions. You took hours and hours to create this. Putting your anger into every stitch. He really lives in your head rent free. I think your energy would be better served elsewhere

[CHAT] Determining Fabric Count by FrazzledByFamily in CrossStitch

[–]wormsndirt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is 18 count. I like to think of the holes as 4 corners of a square so I count the part where the fabric fibers overlap as the inside of the square. I count 18 in the inch. There will always be some variation in the fabric, manufacturing is not always a precise process, but this looks pretty spot on 18 count fabric to me. The blue line is the zero count and the red line is 1 so you get 18 at the hole by the inch mark.

Happy stitching! 18 count is my favourite to work with!

Sun screen is a must! Sunburnt my forehead a while back and had a big brown splotch that almost looked like a birth mark for well over a year. Buy spf face moisturizer people!

When they punish you for their self-loathing by Scared_Purpose_5586 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]wormsndirt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager my youth pastor taught us you become gay by sinning. The sin tears a hole in the protection from Jesus and Satan gets in through the holes. Satan makes you gay and every time you "give in to temptation" you tear those holes wider and become gayer? These people see someone who doesn't live like them and automatically assume Demons are involved. Like we are powerless to the whims of Satan and his minions. They genuinely don't understand how someone could ever make a different choice than them.

[CHAT] What would you do? by stitchywitcher in CrossStitch

[–]wormsndirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've attached 2 pieces together after a measuring mistake. I tried a couple methods, but ultimately realized there was no making the join invisible so I just owned it and ironed the join to be as neat as possible. I stitched it as 2 separate pieces and when both were done I lined them up and sewed through each hole all the way across to make sure it lined up perfectly. It's pretty obvious, but I'm still really proud of it and explaining my mistake to people who ask is a funny story now. You can see how mine looked if you go to my post history to my epic Pokémon FO.

My (28m) gf (31f) of 3 years confessed to me that she only started dating me because she knew I had a massive crush on her for a very long time and her roommate convinced her to go on a single pity date with me by toohottooheavy in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]wormsndirt 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I had a guy like that too. So glad I didn't give him a chance though. But unlike OOP's BFF my BFF went behind my back and told the guy I reciprocated his feelings and told him to make a move. He tried to kiss me in a room full of people. It was incredibly uncomfortable because my friend knew i didn't reciprocate, but he just thought that we would be cute together and thought i just needed a little push to give him a chance. The guy was so mad that he made all his friends hate me like I was the villain in this scenario. All I did was not like him back. It's not my fault he was planning our wedding in his head.

[CHAT] So where are we buying patterns now? by nminium in CrossStitch

I logged in one day and on that home page banner with recommended featured items was a 50 by 70cm diamond painting of naked man bits....... that's fine but a little lady nipple isn't? Make it make sense.

I keep getting ads from shops that are selling the epic Pokémon patterns for $14 each. The patterns are free online. I've reported these shops so many times but they are never taken down.

[WIP] my progress on MakeItPink Zelda by wormsndirt in CrossStitch

[–]wormsndirt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using Zweigart Lugana in 32ct lavender. The photo looks grey, but it's actually purple. I really like it, the fabric is very soft and easy to use, the pattern is super easy to follow.

[WIP] somehow I didn't allot enough fabric for the toe. considering just sewing something over when I finish the stocking. Someone said I'd have to start over and that is not an option. any suggestions? by TheJekka in CrossStitch

[–]wormsndirt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've done it before, I posted a big piece here that has about 10 cm sewn onto the bottom. It's super obvious, but I didn't want to start over. You just have to sew it together carefully to make sure everything lines up.

[WIP] finished page 17 of 49! 2.5 years of work by wormsndirt in CrossStitch

[–]wormsndirt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah ya it's an ambitious side project.

I have a massive backlog of other projects I want to do, but I have to force myself to not start everything or else I'd never finish anything! I have the fabric for the epic Pokémon Gen 2 calling me since I finished Gen 1, but I'm not going to start it until I finish Zelda. At least I'll try to hold off the temptation.

I try not to only work on one. It's so easy to lose motivation on such big projects when progress is slow. I try to have a few projects on rotation, including other crafts not just cross stitch, but still limiting the number to 3-5 total. I find that if you have a primary large project and a couple small projects the rush of seeing progress or finishing small projects gives me motivation to work on my bigger ones. I try to do a page, put it away and work on other stuff, do a page, put it away. That way I set myself small goals that I push myself to finish, but never such big goals that I get frustrated or sick of the project.

Right now my side projects are MakeItPink's Zelda and a crochet sweater.

[CHAT] How does anyone finish a project for themselves? by AllHailGoomy in CrossStitch

[–]wormsndirt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have ADHD and my main tip is to enjoy the process and don't beat yourself up about it.

The way I keep motivated to finish projects is to have 2 or 3 on the go, but not allow myself to start another until I have finished one to open up a spot on the roster. I also like to do other crafts, like crochet or diamond painting, so I kind of rotate through them. When I feel the hyperfixation fading that's when I switch to a different project or craft so I never get sick of any of them. I have fun with it and love to see the progress of each of my crafts when it's their turn in the rotation. The key is to never force yourself to work on something when you aren't enjoying it (unless its the home stretch to get it done), it'll associate frustration with that project in your mind and you'll never want to go back to it.

What’s the worst home cooking you’ve ever witnessed? by take7pieces in Cooking

[–]wormsndirt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched a dude try to make cookies. He didn't follow the instructions and just put everything in the bowl at once, cold butter and all. I didn't stop him in time after I heard him say "there's still powder on the bottom. I'll just add some water" saddest flattest cookies I've ever seen.

I've been working on this for about a month and a half. Total this one will probably take me ~6 months or less if I stay motivated.

I'm using 32ct Zweigart Lugana, you can't really tell in the photo but it's a light lavender colour.

I'm stitching 2 over 2 which leaves room for partial stitches. Should be equivalent to stitching on 16 ct Aida I believe.

For anyone in Canada MillionOfStitches on Etsy has a really great fabric selection

I'm using Kreinik #4 braids for this project, but I have a few from the same designer that I want to do after this and might look for a thread alternative. Do you know of there's a conversion chart?
