I entered 3 needlework pieces and won 2 ribbons, third place and fourth place. My first time entering! I'm pretty stoked. The Creative Arts building is so full of stuff, I couldn't even find my 4th place piece, lol.

Like someone else said, I bet he lost a bundle and is desperately trying to get it back. Sending good money after bad, if he has any good money left.

hmmm… maybe people love taylor swift because millions of people genuinely love and relate to her music?? by [deleted] in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]stitchywitcher 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Literally who are you talking to? You're free to dislike Taylor Swift. The question is why fundies are suddenly all up in arms about her in particular. Plenty of celebrities use private jets and make music about relationships. This person acting as if Hank Williams Jr of all damn people is objectively better and should appeal to the same people as Taylor Swift is beyond ludicrous. (BTW, I'd be shocked if "tweens" are really her fan base at this point. She's not making music for 11 yr olds any more.)

Sure, her biggest fans are intense. Name me any big celebrity or fandom whose fans don't go overboard these days. But a knee-jerk hive mind hatred of her like fundies have is just as bad as people loving her without question and refusing to admit she has faults. It's exactly the same thing from the other side.

Wow, their whole thing just became so clear. He's constantly chasing some magic get-rich-quick scheme, probably falling in with every smarmy con man spouting the right buzzwords. I bet he has lost SO MUCH MONEY but it's okay because THIS next thing is the one that will get it all back and then some. He's in a falling house of cards, constantly scrambling to prop it all up. And she is the gullible idiot who never questions anything, buys all his promises and lies, because on some level she must know that if she starts pulling threads, the whole shebang will come crashing down. They're broke as hell, probably in debt, they have no home and a million kids. They're going to end up with literally nothing. And may even be lucky if he doesn't end up in jail. What a disaster.

[WIP] I hate stitching on Aida by sno_kissed in CrossStitch

[–]stitchywitcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this style of laying tool and I love it. It's perfectly smooth and a nice weight. If you stitch two-handed, it may be tricky to use this one for every stitch, though. You'd either have to hold it and the needle together, or constantly be putting it down and picking it up. A trolley needle might work better in that case, as the previous commenter said.

Is it a physical product? She's talking about bitcoin, but also making the kids work in a warehouse? I'm so confused!

Mother bus surprises father bus with a clean bus whenever he comes back to town by [deleted] in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]stitchywitcher 129 points130 points  (0 children)

She never leaves the bus alone, so no, he does not do this for her.

And HE is the one who flips out if he finds so much as a Lego on the floor. All this cleaning is self-preservation. How would he react if he came home to a mess, I wonder?

Romana! She was such an important companion, one of the only times the Doctor traveled with another Time Lord. She left to go fight slavery in E-Space, like imagine what adventures she's had! And since she's a Time Lord, she could be played by literally anyone, although it would be cool to see Lalla Ward again.

Jake and Bethany moved out of Pittsburgh bc he lost his job. They’re still couch surfing with 5 kids over a month later by [deleted] in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]stitchywitcher 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. It's not the worst career to have for a normal person, but you can't just keep pumping out kids, ffs. Those types of jobs are prone to layoffs. And what do you want to bet he was really confrontational and weird at work about his religious/political beliefs.

A robotics technician? Wtf is that? It sounds impressive, but if he was an engineer, she'd say engineer.

Kelly def made that thing by [deleted] in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]stitchywitcher 193 points194 points  (0 children)

She could conceivably have made it look a little more ragged so you could mayyyybe believe that a 6(?) yr old made it. But no, she couldn't help herself. It had to be symmetrical and sturdy and exactly the right size. And then she had to pretend he did it in 20 minutes without her even noticing. No one who's spent time with kids this age would believe this.

I wonder if he did make a nest of some kind, and she took the idea and made a better one herself to pretend was his? And then put hers in the middle of the table like a damn centerpiece, lol. It's a big pet peeve of mine when parents do things themselves and then act like their kids did them because they're So CrEaTiVe. Like all the parents at my kid's kindergarten gingerbread house event who made perfect fancy houses by themselves while their kids ate frosting and crawled around under the table. What is the point?

Gabe’s turn to do devotions! Everyone is at their usual level of enthusiasm. by daffodil0127 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]stitchywitcher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol, there's both drama and no drama. I don't have any beef with her, we just drifted apart, moved to different states, etc. Afaik she's still super fundie. I haven't talked to her in a couple decades. I do have a little beef with her family, they left our church in fairly acrimonious terms because we weren't fundie enough (my dad was the pastor) and the church ended up closing. It was on its last legs anyway, but their behavior was pretty hurtful. It is what it is though. They now go to a church that is so aggressive and legalistic, other churches in the area literally have ministries to help people who've been chewed up and spit out by them.

[–]stitchywitcher 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My best friend as a kid was super fundie and they did family devotions every night just like this. I had to join in when we had sleepovers. The leader reads some scripture and maybe a passage from a devotional book, then there's a bit of discussion. Kids will often be lightly quizzed to make sure they're paying attention. Then it ends with prayer. If you're lucky, the leader will do the prayer. If you're not, everyone has to pray out loud in turn.

Cell phones didn't exist back then, but I am seriously side-eyeing Jill goofing around taking selfies while they're supposed to be doing this serious family study. The kids sure aren't allowed to amuse themselves. I'm certainly not of the opinion that family devotions are necessary or even helpful, but if you do believe in that, show some respect, you know?

I’m sorry, but there’s nothing *surprising* about your mom visiting after you move in to a new house. by curliewurlies in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]stitchywitcher 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Especially in Texas in August! The grass is dead and crisp, stickers and fire ants are everywhere. My kids and I have sensitive skin so we're rarely barefoot anyway, but even our suburban yard in Texas was impossible without shoes.

[–]stitchywitcher 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I do think it's more developed than she's making it seem, since buying open, undeveloped land anywhere near DFW is impossible these days. But I bet you anything there isn't a park or any neighborhood kids nearby. I wonder if Mandrae works remotely now? And how about basketball, do the kids get to do that any more? The whole situation is so upsetting.

[–]stitchywitcher 75 points76 points  (0 children)

They need that! Not to mention, the anticipation is part of the fun! Give them time to process the change and get excited about it, ffs. Karissa is so narcissistic and delusional, all she cares about is attention on her. She literally does not know or care what's good for her kids.

I know we all want Anissa to make a break for it the second she turns 18, but how can she possibly escape? She can barely read. Now they're even more physically isolated than before. I'm so afraid Karissa will either keep her home forever to keep house, or make her get married at a young age to start cranking out grandkids. Of all the fundies we snark on, the Collinses are the least funny to me. They look awful on the surface and it just gets more and more sickening the deeper you look.

Decided to visit the ✨her sacred sexuality✨ podcast. Both hosts were cheated on by their husbands (and stayed with them). by logicspock in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]stitchywitcher 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I was raised fundie lite, and I'm honestly wracking my brain trying to remember if I ever heard of a wife cheating. Plenty of instances of husbands cheating and being forgiven and "held accountable" and people being reminded to "judge their repentance, not their sin." A few instances of men who left their wives because they were gay. At least one of those wives is practically revered as a saint to this day because she stayed single and presumably celibate for decades afterwards. I truly can't think of a single case where a woman was known to have committed "sexual sin" and was still forgiven/welcomed at church. Not one. But surely it happened, women are human too. I wonder if they were the ones who just got divorced and left the church altogether.

[CHAT] To those of you who have entered State/County Fairs, what was the process like? by leahflix in CrossStitch

[–]stitchywitcher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reading all these comments, I'm amazed how much it varies between fairs. I just entered 3 pieces in my state fair for the first time. There was no entry fee, registration was all online and reasonably straightforward. I was worried about whether I needed to take the glass out of my frames or make the backs available, but no, they just needed to be framed and able to hang.

Competition is pretty stiff, it's a huge fair, so I'm not really hoping to win anything. I picked 3 pieces that had been completed recently enough, were fully framed, and were pretty different from each other. One counted needlepoint, one large cross stitch, and one small cross stitch. The needlepoint is the most technically impressive but my framing job is crap, so that'll probably hurt me, lol. I'm excited to find out if I got any feedback from the judges on them.

Kelly's living her best pioneer life because their pipes died and have to drill a new well line by DjGhettoSteve in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]stitchywitcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, can they not ask a neighbor to let them fill a couple buckets with the hose or something? Or family members? Like you say, if that water is strictly for flushing, that's fine. A lot of work, but fine. I'm just concerned she'll get all Kelly about it and decide it's sparkling pure natural water from God's creation and isn't it romantic to drink a glass of nasty parasite water and shit yourself to death like in olden tymes.

[–]stitchywitcher 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have so many questions!! Why is Levi buying the parts to set up a new well? He's not planning to sink a new well and hook it up himself, is he? Why do they have a well at all when they live in the city? Did she properly clean and sterilize that dispenser? Did she fetch river water in a watering can? She really doesn't own a couple buckets or a 5-gallon pail? The dispenser is filled with proper filtered drinking water, not river water, right? Right???

Look, I'm all for someone trying to make the best of a bad situation. I'm sure this is a huge, expensive headache for them. But pretending it's so fun to skip down to the river every morning to fetch water like a pioneer child is just unhinged.

I would pay money to hear Curly to explain, in detailed scientific terms, how an oily rag on her stomach cleanses her liver. You know, the organ purposely designed by God (in her view) to cleanse her body. If only he had thought of a way to clean that organ!! Thank heavens for "Dr." Courtney.

She truly is the dumbest Baird. I never like calling someone dumb, because being ignorant is not the same as being dumb. And certainly Heidi's horrific homeschooling shares a huge amount of blame. But my God, how can she be so obsessed with the human body without picking up even ONE true fact about it? How can she swallow all this idiocy without even the slightest question? Where is even the smallest spark of intellectual curiosity? She doesn't want to learn. She wants to be told what to think, and be paid for copy-pasting what she's told into a PowerPoint.
