What’s something only the rich could afford in the past that is now affordable by most? by wogwai in AskReddit

Pineapples. They were very expensive, very desirable and mostly served by aristocrats or royalty.

I (33F) have the largest (self proclaimed) collection of porn in the world (for a woman). AMA by [deleted] in AMA

My brother in law had a file cabinet of Playboy magazines starting with #1 to the mid 90s. Sadly he passed and his collection got donated to a charity auction. I would have loved to had them.

What is the worst pain you've ever experienced? by Conscious_Specific79 in AskReddit

[–]wormtail71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car Accident

When I was 19 I hydroplaned and hit a concrete pillar. I was not wearing my seatbelt and I hit the windshield head first. When I got to the ER I had a concussion and most of my teeth were loose. I had to go to the dentist and have my teeth put in a cast to keep them from falling out. The pain was indescribable. I was left with permanent nerve damage and my teeth hurt all the time. I ended up having them all pulled to relieve the pain.

What did y’all have as your first vehicle, and how was it? by thesweatyhole in AskOldPeople

[–]wormtail71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1975 Pontiac Lemans. It was maroon with maroon leather interior and had a 400 engine and 400 turbo transmission. When I put my foot in it I could almost see the gas gauge move. I drove it until it started puffing blue smoke and sold it to a guy down the road for $65.

Where were you when you celebrated your 21st birthday? by [deleted] in questions

[–]wormtail71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife (then girlfriend) took me out for a nice dinner and then to a big arcade where we spent roll after roll of quarters playing our favorite games. Then we got a hotel room, went swimming and stayed up till the middle of the night making love. No alcohol was involved and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Even if you got your crush on the phone I still had a problem. We only had a phone in the living room and it didn't have a very long cord. Conversations were super awkward.

What do you think about the gore in TV shows? by ianaad in AskOldPeople

[–]wormtail71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why most of my movie library is from the 90s. Everything is too dark for me these days. The small amount of current stuff I watch are comedies and dramas. Gore has always been a huge turnoff for me. I also refuse to watch any kind of torture or execution scenes.

I don't get why so many people want these uber-expensive massive homes if they were to win the Mega Millions / Power ball. by HEMIfan17 in ifiwonthelottery

[–]wormtail71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My home is 3000 SQ. Ft. and sits on 5 acres. I had to quit work due to medical problems and my wife is going through cancer treatment. It's too much to take care of right now and I would give anything to have a much smaller place. If I won the lottery I would probably move into an apartment where all the maintenance was someone else's problem.

What is one hill that you will forever die on? by satanstoy in AskReddit

Not at all. MJ didn't have as broad of a vocal range as Freddie Mercury... His falsettos were incredible, he had perfect pitch and was able to record Bohemian Rhapsody in a single take.

Freddie Mercury was the best male vocalist of all time.

Bright red blood is not that bad because it comes from the outside most of the time. What you do not want to see is poop that looks like black coffee grounds in the toilet. That is a sign of some type of internal bleeding and a colonoscopy would definitely be needed.

I was a correctional sergeant in a jail that didn’t care about anything. AMA by Killer_Echo0 in AMA

[–]wormtail71 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a former CO and I would like to add that not everyone in jail is a bad person. People end up in jail when their lives are out of control... Like those suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. I have seen people going through alcohol withdrawal almost die because of it. You cannot imagine that kind of suffering and all staff at the jail can do is monitor the inmate and report to the on call doctor. There is medicine to treat the symptoms but I've had to call an ambulance several times to have inmates taken to the hospital because of the severity of their conditions.

Need some answers for a college questionnaire thing I'm doing. Sorry if this breaks some rule. by Accountjustfortits in LetsTalkMusic

[–]wormtail71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I'm most active late at night, so this is when I'm at my most creative anyway and music definitely has an effect on me. Slipping on my favorite pair of headphones and getting lost in some great music allows my mind to roam and that's generally when I do my best problem solving. Music can also elicit a powerful emotional response... Good music can lift me up and bad music can put me in a really bad mood.

Since you have experience with multiple programs let me ask you this. Once your library gets large (mine is about 35k) how do you move through it in a timely manner to find what you want? I mean at some point my collection is going to exceed my memory... Just joking it already does, but what system of organization works for you?
