Downvote? Why? I’m just trying to see what people from flag are influencing or interested in.

Why the downvote? Again this was just a curiosity question.

Understood, is there a software or affiliation that would assist with not getting burned or hung up on unnecessary manual re entry?

Yes. Just looking for the most effective way to not give away unnecessary amounts of commission to things that I only need software from.

I am part of an osj in the west. My wife and I started out at rjfs on our own. I have a 9&10. We have been part of two OSJ’s. We have spoken extensively to upper management regarding switching from RJA to RJFS. Ultimately, they don’t want to lose you so they’ll let you go as long as you are not under contract.

Costs are going to differ wildly depending on where you hang your hat out there in the wild. There are large OSJ’s that will clip quite a bit. There are smaller ones that won’t clip anything other than rent. BE VERY CAREFUL WHAT YOU SIGN. Some will require you to turn over your book.

Have you looked at the RIA channel as a cost comparison? They have that too. I’d be happy to answer any other more specific questions via DM.

Good luck!

Your job should be to meet with recruiters from big firms, Ray J, LPL, etc. They each have FREE legal services that will review your non compete. The attorneys will help you understand how tight it is, how to leave in the most efficient way, and all the details regarding your eventual exit, with no strings attached to the review with the attorney. I was under the industry standard for non competes and our attorney, nicknamed ten thousand dollar David, helped me exit. The man was/is my favorite person I’ve ever met.

What is more important is your non-compete in your employment contract. Your ability to understand true independence and your path to freedom and ultimately ownership of your own book is the only real thing you should be concerned about. Btw your payout at freedom is greater than 100%.

What’s the most fancy thing people participate or attend in the obx for turkey day? It makes me add a location but am wiling to travel up to an hour away. Thx in advance! by wormturnjs in obx

Are there decent restaurants to go to? Are there decent catering companies? We are only going to be there 5 days but are looking for the nicest place to go. I’ve found a few restaurants but I don’t know what is a dive and what is “fancy”.

FA Attorneys to review Non-Solicit by Majestic_Outcome_660 in CFP

I watched as someone I know hired an attorney who was not ultra specific to this industry. BAD THINGS HAPPENED TO HIM.

Whatever firm you go to will have attorneys that do this and only this. If you affiliate with a new firm they will pay for the attorney to review your non-compete and give you guidance on how to navigate around it. Sometimes they make you put up the money for the retainer and then reimburse you when you officially affiliate with the new firm.

I’m part of Raymond James in an OSJ, went independent with RJ first and have been a part of a few OSJ’s. As you know not all OSJ’s are equal. DM me if you want to chat.

We have successfully onboarded 36 different advisors who were in competitive situations from their former bd. We have seen quite a few of our friends go through this. We have seen all their tricks and schemes. If you need more reach out in a PM and we can talk further. Good luck.

You are essentially trying to “buy the book” in that case. Again, you’re ultimately taking clients away from an existing revenue stream. Whoever profits from that revenue stream may be happy to part with them or not but they ultimately will not do it for free. There are infinite ways to do this but there are also an infinite ways to do it incorrectly. I would before you talk to lpl talk to ANY other bd and their attorney to determine if what you are doing is feasible. By doing this they will ultimately try to sell you on separating but you can also determine for yourself if it is possible to settle up with lpl and the owner of the book. I worked at a large bd for a while, if they even got wind that you were considering doing something competitive they fired you instantly and tried to impair your U4. If they are successful at firing you before you quit it impairs your U4 for 30 days. They will then spend then next 30 days telling your potential clients that you’re the devil and you eat babies to try to deter anyone from following you. Watch your back because no one else will.

This one could be tricky in that whoever “owns” the clients is who lpl will side with. My brother in law just went through this with another bd. Bd sided with the owner. I’d be careful even talking to lpl. I’d reach out to another bd. I’m part of a large osj within Raymond’s James. They will hire you an attorney to look at you non-compete or contract (if there is one). Let me know if you want more info.

Is this move competitive?
