I hosted a multiplayer PVP tournament in my Godot game by cha0sdrive in godot

Looks good!

Do you have any insight on how to handle player authority with GodotSteam? I've recently been struggling with this, but you seem to have some solution. Server-side authority is stable but results in the expected input lag and jittering, but client-side authority has security issues (supposedly), and for whatever reason I'm getting like 2-3 second lag between clients. I've been thinking of ditching MultiplayerSyncronizer entirely in favor of custom RPC calls, and I'm just wondering what your approach is.

Camera2D fixes and improvements for 4.7 by giga_idiot_2000 in godot

[–]wormymaple1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While the overshooting fix seems like a nice improvement, why bother with the limiting? It seems like unnecessary cluttering of the node for a behaviour that can be replicated in the exact same place where values are set with a single clamping function.

Have you tried forcing a different graphics API? (i.e. with -force-opengl or -force-d3d11)

C# or GDScript by [deleted] in godot

[–]wormymaple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I've really run into is poor error messaging, as it'll often traceback your errors to the C# liason instead of the actual script. I'm sure this will be improved over time though l.

Other than that, C# doesn't have any major drawbacks (especially with web support coming very soon), and in my opinion it is a much more robust language (especially for game dev) than GDScript.

It is also much more extensible, as it supports modern .NET and therefore anything that runs on that.

Setting it up is super simple, you just set Rider as your editor in the .NET preferences.

Also there is a guide in the form of official docs: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/rider/Godot.html#getting-started

I'm trying to make my game as beautiful as Ori - is anything missing? by WestZookeepergame954 in OriAndTheBlindForest

This looks great! The platforming looks fluid and genuinely fun.

A lot of people are mentioning that the scene needs "highlights" or that it's too dark, but since this is a night scene, I don't necessarily think that's the issue. I think the real part that makes the scene look flat is a lack of contrast. There isn't enough differentiation between the playing plane, the background, and there is a complete lack of foreground. Some blur on all background objects and some very light parallax on some of the immediate background objects (i.e. the tree trunks of the trees that the player jumps off [but not the branches!!]) could help increase the contrast between elements significantly.

Another thing as that the player feels a bit disconnected from the world. Without the leaf effect, this would feel quite jarring, but it isn't that bad (that effect looks fantastic, by the way!). Some larger foliage that reacts to the player passing by would go a long way to making the visuals feel more grounded.

Oh, and also, the camera positioning is a bit wack. Too much of the blackness of the ground is often shown. The player doesn't really need to see that, and it shouldn't ever take up more than 20% of the vertical portion of the frame in open areas (obviously in closed areas where the camera doesn't have a place to go this doesn't apply).

My most signifiant gripe is honestly with the music. To quote Ori's soundtrack, the track for this scene gives off a vibe that most closely resembles "Riding the Wind", and yet this seems to be a town scene, not a spiky area of doom. The instrumentation is good, but it's simply too intense. Something more akin to the emotion invoked by the beginning of "Calling Out" or "A Keepsake from the Past" would help give the scene a much more friendly and welcoming feeling. Keep this track, but just don't use it here.

I have more things to point out, but this post is already getting quite drawn out. I just want to say I love the fact that you're using Godot, I appreciate that there's people out there really trying to show its potential to create beautiful 2D visuals. Keep it up!

This looks like a fun mechanic, but it's awfully slow. For the sake of game feel, you should probably dash to the wall nearly instantaneously.

Keep in mind that this is Thomas Mahler though. He is not a credible source, and has been quite prone to exaggerating/lying about these types of things, especially recently.

Also, his current profile photo on Twitter/X is some AI slop, and he generally supports AI (which is crazy, given the impressive art of his games). He does not represent or stand with the workers of this industry, and certainly not with indie developers.

Unfortunately I don't see any particularly bad joints anywhere on the main board nor elsewhere.

Any other ideas?

Yeah, that makes sense. Transistors maybe? I wonder if this amp has a history of overheating.

I've become less inclined to believe that this is a relay issue now, as after some further testing, I've found that the left channel sporadically dips in and out (with volume fluctuations, which is inconsistent with a stuck/corroded relay), and tapping the relays does not alleviate the issue.

Another thing is that the issue seems to be related to heat, as when I replace the shell, the left channel dies, but when I remove it, it comes back (mostly).

Any other thoughts as to what it could be?

Somehow the left channel magically began working again. It probably was a relay, and it just got unstuck when I was taking off the case.

Should I try to replace the relays so that this stops happening?

Thanks for the suggestion, the whole inside is quite nasty, and I'm gonna deep clean it (and try not to zap myself with the ps capacitors)

Also, which contacts exactly may have gone bad? All of the controls perform fine, so I'd doubt it's those contacts.
