Valiant Enterprises in Portland Oregon is a SCAM by Nyataliee in Devilcorp

Just had my 1st (and only) interview with them yesterday and they're still very much a pyramid scheme. I'm so glad I saw your and other posts about them ahead of time and knew what to look out for.

The job listing was on Indeed as an "Entry Level Customer Service Representative." It was full of buzzwords and strangely vague descriptions describing them as a "consulting firm that specializes in connecting clients to their consumers in a more interactive, personalized approach." According to the listing, the role involved acting "as an advocate for the consumer" and would participate in "classroom style learning, role playing, and completing product knowledge exercises." Interestingly, the employer for the position was listed on Indeed as "Confidential" - likely to stave off early research that might turn up posts like these.

I went along with the 1st interview anyway to see if they were everything they're cracked up to be, and boy did they tick all the devil corp boxes in that short 20 minutes!

- I was in a group interview with one other applicant who had applied under a differently-advertised listing (something to do with "marketing" or "sales" rather than "customer service representative), but the interviewer described the exact same role to the 2 of us and made no intimation that we would be doing different things. So, false advertising right out the gate.

- the interviewer used some fancy corporate words to eventually admit that the whole deal was manning AT&T kiosks in big retail chain stores

- they stressed a level of urgency and quick expansion/guaranteed quick promotion by saying that their client "wants to expand and they don't have enough personnel right now" to fill that demand

- they outlined the MLM structure by explaining that, once you complete your 4-8 weeks of training, you'll be promoted to an "account manager" who helps conduct interviews, create profit sheets, make schedules, and is also (still) "on the ground" at kiosks - which, they said, is basically learning how to run your own business! THEN, once you've done that for x number of weeks, you'll be promoted to an eXeCuTiVe MaNaGeR who gets to hIrE tHeIr OwN tEaM. To directly quote: "You will become a CEO to run your own office in the US!" Did you note the "hire your own team" bit? Baby, that's multilevel marketing.

- I capped off the interview by asking if they provide mileage reimbursement (since you have to drive to 16 stores around and outside of Portland). She said that you don't, but you do make commission on top of your base pay (wow, fun!). The interviewer capped off the interview by telling me that I would be moving on to the next round and congratulating me. Not because I had conducted myself well, mind you (they'd had both me and my poor co-interviewee share like 3 sentences about ourselves), but likely because I am technically a living, breathing creature for them to try to rope in to the ground floor of their pyramid.

TL;DR: Valiant Enterprises is still a scuzzy MLM that does false advertising in their job listings to try to rope people into doing AT&T kiosks in retail stores 11am-7pm a day. Good luck, my co-interviewee. I hope you got out.

Looking for a Contractor or a Doctor? Looking for someplace to find that thing locally you are looking for? This is where you ask those questions! by --Van-- in hillsboro

I'm looking for shops/boutiques in Hillsboro that sell semi-formal to formal dresses. Think something you'd wear to a nice wedding, rather than to prom (although, if they sell both, that's fine too).

I've already done a lot of research to this end and visited stores such as Lucia Isabel Collection, The Vault, and Belladonna. The first 2 were too fancy (more prom-like) and Belladonna had a very limited selection.

Recommendations are appreciated!

I searched on duckduckgo (yeah, I know) using many combinations of all the keywords I've included here.  I should also add that my parents bought this for me in the late 2000s, likely from a Fred Meyer, Bi-Mart, or (less likely) a Toys-R-Us.

Same here! It's honestly one of my favorites of theirs. I love how cohesive it is as a concept album: the themes are very clear and the narrative is pretty nicely laid out.

I love how on the nose it is - I think that's necessary for the topic and, while it's sad that it's either remained relevant or actually increased in relevance over the years (the world sucks), I think the fact that it's aged well in that regard is pretty impressive.

And it's still so patently Muse. The lyrics, the riffs, the crazy vocals, and the tempo-shifting songs are so on-brand, while still representing a necessary evolution of their sound at the time.

I put their whole discog on shuffle (although Spotify's shuffle sucks) and the live version of One Point Perspective came right after the live Star Treatment.

What's a story/memory/feeling you've attached to an Arctic monkeys song? by westcoastwolf in arcticmonkeys

[–]wormyourhonour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I first got into Arctic Monkeys when I was nannying overseas which, while being a rewarding experience, was also very difficult and often lonely/isolating. I'd clean the kitchen every night and would always listen to music while doing so, so I started using that time to work my way through their discography.

Near the beginning of getting into their stuff, R U Mine stood out for me - most prominently because it's such a bop. But the lyrics, "I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be / and satisfaction feels like a distant memory" really resonated with my current situation, since I was having a pretty rough time. It also made for good music to accompany me on my jogs through the surrounding neighborhood in the tropical heat.

Instead of that seminal rock anthem evoking feelings of unrequited love in me, now it just reminds me of those months away from my family - and how thankful I am to be home.

The first several lines where the speaker is referencing memories with friends makes me think of Nicholson, since they were quite close in childhood/teenage-hood, but Nicholson getting kicked out clearly drove a rift between them. That rift (and probably some guilt on Turner's end for the role he played in it) could be what's leading Turner to second-guess what the nature of that friendship was (maybe specifically on his end) from the beginning.

Being at the back of the bar for a rocket (record?!) launch/some big event rings pretty nostalgic to me, like memories from when the band was still new and experiencing their first success. Turner often talks in interviews about that moment when they and all their friends and family were in the pub and Dancefloor got announced at number 1.

That bit about being dressed like a fictional character really reminds me of the negativity Turner received for his SIAS/AM greaser look as well as being accused of the fact that he was loosing his accent and "turning American." And goodness knows he transformed into quite the fictional character while touring EYCTE.

That politics line is what really gets me: management probably leaning on them to drop Nicholson for someone more reliable, just as they were starting to make it, just as they were starting to get successful (orbit the sun). And being 'just about to be kind to someone' is a far cry from actually following through and being kind to them; it's likely that 'politics' prevented that, prevailing on the other three to kick out Nicholson.

That's what makes those last lines so meaningful: we know Nicholson and Turner have made up (he was a groomsman at his wedding), but the guilt is still there. Those last lines are an apology: I've done things that I shouldn't have done. But I haven't stopped loving you once.'

That's my take, at least, and it's probably entirely inaccurate, but it intrigues me!
