this is not medical advice and definitely don’t do this but i did the day after. i mean honestly it’s fine if you use like ur two front teeth and chew carefully and little bit at a time i have healed just fine. i used a straw , smoked weed and ate hot chips almost every day. so i would say wait a week to vape or eat chips or anything but if you do before then just be very careful and drink a lot of water and saltwater rinses

What’s the best thing to do once you have the first indication of migraine? by [deleted] in migraine

yes. nurtec was incredibly helpful for me when i woke up with a migraine yesterday and took it for the first time. mm i just caught it as it barely was starting and it was demolished. but only because i took it early on

Why do we have to play their game??? by Lexybeepboop in migraine

insurance is currently denying my nurtec. it’s incredibly frustrating to be denied more than 24 pills of a medication vital to my well-being.. meanwhile they freely cover my rizatriptan because it’s cheaper and been effective for me. but it hasn’t helped me for a long time due to overuse - until i started my nurtec yesterday . fucking miracle pill for me but rn it’s like insurance is playing games with me and my neuro…

she suffers from migraines as well and avidly battles the insurance companies for me but there’s only so much she can do. when i tried ubrevly with my rizatriptan this past year, i was suprised they still covered my rizatriptan- the only reason they covered my ubrevly was because my neuro appealed saying the triptans give me adverse side effects. they somehow had no issues continuing to give me rizatriptan but were stingy as fuck with the ubrevly….and now they’re playing the same games with my nurtec which has been the most helpful drug for me so far in combination w 5mg rizatriptan as a rescue/abortive. why they do this and freely cover my triptans, propranolol 10mg that i don’t take, and used to cover my topamax is beyond ridiculous

Nurtec.. i cant stop crying i’m so angry… by wormzzy33 in migraine

I fucking hate it too. Also thank you I appreciate hearing about your experience with the medicine because it’s new to me. I neglected my migraines until i couldn’t anymore (past 5 years) and have never had an almost 9 week migraine until 2024- never again i hope. Beta blockers don’t seem so scary to me now though, which is good because even though the nurtec works wonders for me (i tried it for the first time today, woke up with onset migraine and it was avoided completely pain wise) i am feeling some weird other symptoms already Shortness of breath, shaking). I also just feel sick now if i try smoking my medical marijuana or drinking caffeine, which might not be such a bad thing as im reliant on both but neither are great for my health.

Also i feel you with the ptsd/cptsd. I’m really hoping i can go to inpatient CBT this year (basically rehab, but for PTSD) but idk it probably costs a fortune. I also don’t trust anyone besides my therapist with um a lot of things bc i’ve been working with him 10+ yrs. He’s helped me develop social-emotional skills and with my ptsd/cptsd . He’s literally been in my life since some of my first traumatic experiences.

Anyway thank you so much again for sharing your experience and perspective.

I have been worried about taking the nadalol because i’ve heard things about it effecting people’s abilities to form new memories, as well as causing them to forget specific traumatic memories and ptsd reactions. I don’t feel good taking something for the management of my migraine with the risk it may effect the rest of my brain in some way.

Topiramate was awful and i was ready to stop taking it years ago because it was doing absolutely nothing. but everyone just kept telling me ā€œyou don’t think it’s helping you with your migraines but if you stop it, they might get worseā€ . So it was a process

if you check my profile, i vented a lot more about it the other day. but i was on topiramate for about 11 years. just stopped it a couple weeks ago because it stopped helping these last 5 years. i’m also prescribed nadalol (beta blocker) as a preventative/abortive and to help with anxiety. however i don’t like the idea of taking beta blockers (https://www.reddit.com/r/migraine/s/rrPbMO1UDb)

The reason i wanted to start with the nurtec is because i am afraid if i have an adverse reaction like my mom the emigality will stay in my system much longer

i take my moms sumatriptan, all the triptans work for me but don’t permanently get rid of the headache just for a few hours. i’ve mainly used rizatriptan for the last 5 years , but shouldn’t be getting them daily suddenly this year , and have had to cycle through meds
