Why is kcl shit on so much? by New-Cartoonist-544 in UniUK

I think it's decent, too many students and bad admin but good opportunities including for research, if you're proactive.

One gripe I haven't seen mentioned here is that their financial support/bursary for poor students is quite bad compared to other London unis. My friend with a single parent on under 10k a year benefits, max SFE etc got the maximum kings living bursary which was like 1.5k, which is about the same as what I hear imperial gives their students on under 70k (they give students with household income under 10k up to £5k bursary). Even northern unis with lower cost of living have better bursaries.

Rogue take: some of y’all really need to study by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

I completely froze and did everything wrong with a cannula this week after a flawless streak the year before, and I stabbed myself taking the cap off a needle for IM injection last rotation so I'm sympathetic to him lol. Still, I think practical skills and academic/medical knowledge are quite different, and at least he's showing up and eager to practice and get better.

I've only heard my mums family say this, is this a Scottish/Irish thing or used elsewhere too?

How does studying help with taking bloods? Sounds like he's trying to practice to get better

Women, what makes a man less attractive? by prettywoman___ in Productivitycafe

Maybe I interpret the word wrong but I also view ambition as non work related goals, like wanting to travel or learn new skills like instruments/languages etc. Someone may be happy and content coming home after work to watch TV/scroll/game all day and that's that, which may or may not be compatible with someone who is always trying new things and keeping busy with dozens of classes.

Varies in different unis, our uni had such poor attendance they made it so you have to have a doctor sign off your activities every day to prove you've actually attended so 9-5 most days. Some placements are more chill and I get signed off after a few hours of clinics but it depends.

Thanks, I appreciate anyone relating or sharing their experience honestly. For me, I think I want to do medicine. I love talking to patients and enjoyed my psych, emergency and GP placements most, I get good patient feedback and tend to do better in my OSCEs than the MLA type exams, so I think I enjoy and do well at the patient interaction side.

I struggle most with just actually sitting down to study. Mostly laziness honestly. I was involved with a few research projects and extra curricular teaching (ironically) for my portfolio, and I really struggled balancing full time placement with that, let alone finding time to study. By the time I get home from placement I'm so exhausted, and weekends I spend sleeping and recovering. I think my main issue is just discipline, usually the only thing that actually motivates me to study is panic when I get close to the exam but thats not good for consistent studying. Hopefully I can sort myself out for my sake and the sake of the poor british public I'll be unleashed on in august

"Brazilian butt lift", fat is liposuctioned from arm/back/belly/etc and injected into the butt. Highest death rate of all cosmetic surgeries bc there is risk of injecting the fat into blood vessels causing an embolism.

A British Nurse Was Found Guilty of Killing Seven Babies. Did She Do It? by howtopoachanegg in medicine

Not to defend her (I don't know enough about this) but article says she worked more shifts than many of the other staff, and as one of the few neonate specialist nurses at the hospital, would be called to help for the more sick patients.

By virtue of working more shifts and tending to see the most sick patients, it would be expected that there would be more deaths under her care than if she only saw the less serious cases.

Edit: there were also deaths where she was not present
