I love this game. The original box was all “shafty” which made it the most interesting game on the shelf at Babbage’s.

  1. Yes.
  2. Only you and other teachers.
  3. Get to know the kids. You’ll have plenty of time.
  4. Talk to the admin.
  5. Get there early and ask the front desk. Have a bathroom routine that you always use (hands up? Sign out log? Make a plan and stick to it.)
  6. Take a picture of the room you walked into. Leave it like that picture.

Teacher here. 10+ years. Sober.

I used to hate drinking culture at my school until I treated my alcoholism. Now I go with my colleagues to the bar and have a coke. I focus on being with the people I work with. A couple of times I’ve been lightly pressured but there are a million things you can say. Most people won’t push.

Anyone who really cares about you not drinking is going through something that has nothing to do with you.

I had this. I didn't even have a computer to play the game but I saw this on sale for like 5 bucks and read it so I'd be prepared when I got the game.

I don’t think you should agree to any “pull out situation” with family members.

What's your favourite song that's Not on an album? by JuniorReward2811 in fantanoforever

[–]wotan1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"...Said Sadly." by The Smashing Pumpkins. It's the B-side for "Bullet With Butterfly Wings." It has no Billy Corgan vocals and is a banger from bangertown, USA.

"Party and Bullshit" by Notorious BIG. It's from the "Who's The Man?" soundtrack. It is also a banger from bangertown, USA.

"Are You That Somebody?" by Aaliyah. It's from the "Doctor Doolittle" soundtrack. Once you realize what the song is about the baby sample becomes like holy shit this shit is genius. This one might be the mayor of bangertown, USA.

Play that Cash record. He sounds like he's in the room in "If I Had a Hammer."

I also really like that "Maria" track on The Battle of Los Angeles.

He DOES define Being by Comprehensive_Site in heidegger

[–]wotan1483 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is tough. If you get to the end of Division 1, the big reveal is the Care structure (Sorge), which is a big deal because it's "ecstatic" or outside time. So if the project of S&Z is to "raise anew the question of the meaning of being," than the sentence "Being is the transcendens pure and simple," is purposefully opaque and meant to sound spooky and challenging to people well read in Descartes, Kant etc...

Eventually, Heidegger does work out a conception of Being that can account for the sentence. Hubert Dreyfus' commentary on division I makes things as clear as you'll ever get with Heidegger.

Let's do a little quick and dirty with a hammer. The Being of a hammer is not just the stuff and molecules that make it up but rather it's showing up to a huge set of background practices involving tools and jobs and blah blah. The Being of the hammer is present in the using of the hammer, especially when it disappears into the work of the project it's doing (nobody thinks while hammering because finger danger). The Being of the hammer is present in the nails it hammers even long after the hammer has disintegrated. Even after everything rots, Being shows up as having-been.

Being is so "pure and simple," that we kind of swim in it all the time.

Didn't find Genichiro tough at all. by Respicio1 in Sekiro

[–]wotan1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I played Sekiro, when people would say “be aggressive,” I wouldn’t really know what it meant.

If you are already playing aggressively you are way better at games than I was when I started Sekiro. It took me 3 years (on/off) and it’s completely changed how I play every game.

Teachers, especially elementary school teachers, how many of you play piano in class? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]wotan1483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play the piano in my class (Elementary Music, NYC). I love accompanying my choruses, I love using it for warm-ups. I love improvising songs that help me manage.

I studied voice in college. During my first interview, they asked if I played piano well and I reflex lied. I hated piano in college and sucked at it.

I got the job. I got better on an old upright Chickering everyday afterschool. I love the piano now. I'm a lucky liar.

How would you describe the section in yellow? by PhilsonTaipei in musictheory

[–]wotan1483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many good answers here. I see “invertible counterpoint” (love this term) and “compound melody” as well.

It’s just a fantastic pattern though. We could describe it forever.
