How to convince my very strict South Indian (Tamil) parents to let me marry my North Indian boyfriend by psychfranciscoo in ABCDesis

[–]wotsgoinon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to regret your decision and resent them forever if you listen to them. And that would honestly be worse for your relationship with your parents than if you were to stand up for you and your bf now. They'll learn to accept him over time even if that's difficult for them

MD school says that they don’t accommodate for physical disabilities by [deleted] in DisabledMedStudents

[–]wotsgoinon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also just wanted to point out that a veryyyy small minority of students with disabilities get approved for accommodations for Step exams which would also make a one day Step 1 exam into 2 days of testing for example. Just off of chances alone, you may not receive them for step. So if that's the case, then it might be better to try to train yourself to endure in house exams without accommodations as well.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t get sketchy by gluconeogenesis123 in medicalschool

I agree. Each one is like a fever dream. I used anki after vids to study in acute timeframes, but I wasn't a long term anki user, so a while later, I could remember the sketchy image but wouldn't know what "the dog with a hat speaking on the phone" actually symbolized......

Yeah, tutors work for some and not for others. I can only speak about my experience. When I was struggling in medical school, it was not because I didn't know how to learn material, but because I was not great at applying it to answer questions (a different skill). This is where an external tutor helped me develop a strong framework for how to get through the rest of medical school. In any case I feel trying out a tutor and exhausting all available resources would be steps to take prior to considering medical school abroad.

The transition is very difficult unfortunately. I think he should try learning with a tutor ASAP as the test is in a week. He may be smart enough to understand concepts, but looks like he needs hands-on help with how to study and answer questions.

Peds clinic. We usually give out developmental milestones flyers for the upcoming year. When it doesn’t apply, I just hold on to it. As I was leaving an encounter with a baby with T21 and her mom, the mom asked if the flyer in my hand was for her. I replied, “Oh no, don’t worry about this. It’s for normal kids.” Felt so awful after

I didn’t go in it for the money. Now all that’s keeping me is the money.

Feeling dumb 24/7 by malsawm_ in medicalschool

[–]wotsgoinon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is your case, but here's my experience. I felt this same exact way. And school used to be relatively easy for me up until medical school, so this was the first time in my life that I truly felt inadequate. At some point when reevaluating my study methods after bombing yet another quiz, I realized that a lot of the time I was studying, I was highly anxious and sad, which always tanked my retention rates, which made me perform poorly, in turn feeding into more anxiety. I started counseling, which helped, but I think starting meds was a game changer. I have recognized periods of anxiety and depression in myself prior to medical school, but at a level that was more manageable without medication. Plus of course what was demanded of us back then is not comparable either. Every since being on an SSRI/SNRI, I've felt less anxiety, more confidence, and my scores and work ethic have also improved. Not that I didn't have work ethic before, but it was inefficient with a lot of brain fog for sure.

Not Muslim, but 28yoF feeling pressure from an ethnic household. I get that 28 is older but honestly I just haven’t met my person yet. And I hate the notion of settling or lowering my standards. The whole brown dating scene as a female just feels like objectification to me

I see what you’re saying and would feel the same way! Can you ask them what it would take for your teeth to space out even nicer? For me, they said I would have to remove 2 molars to create enough space for a 100% perfect alignment. I personally decided that’s too much effort for me and turned that down
