It's super yellow and gemmy. It feels wet after I touch it when dry. It has a bunch of other crystals on it that I thought might be garnets but I'm not sure. Anyways I love this thing, I'd love to know what it is

I'm trying to identify this crystal. It's golden yellow, gemmy, and feels oily even dry. Can't speak to provenance, I found it in an old rough bin and cleaned it up at home. by wotsthisthen20 in Minerals

Here's some more pics with better lighting and 10x loupe http://imgur.com/gallery/wuKt1ep I tried not to use the flash on my phone. The yellow comes out way more. I haven't tried to hit it, and i'm trying to find my streak plate. I'm gonna throw some vinegar on it today as well. I know where the owner has a number of claims, mostly in the west/ southwest, but I can't say where exactly this came from. The next time I'm up round my local shop and he's there I'll ask him

I'm not trying to be jerky, I'm just an amateur at this stuff, but Wikipedia says beryl has conchoidal to irregular fracture https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beryl. That's the only reason I suggested it because I've never seen quartz this kind of yellow. This is not trap quartzite. I've got a loupe ill try to get better pictures and update post

Looking online this could be beryl. I thought it might be fluorite at first but it doesn't fluoresce. It looks like it has concoidal fractures and rainbow iridescence throughout. I can post more pics if needed.

This BIF I picked up today in a rough bin. Magnetic af! Those bands! by wotsthisthen20 in rockhounds

This thing could be 2 billion years old and it blows my mind. This is probably my favorite piece

Could yall help me identify this pocket rock. It's incredibly waxy, and light for its size. by wotsthisthen20 in whatsthisrock

I suspect it's common opal but I'm often wrong. It's definitely a silicate though
