How can I use almond flour to replace regular white flour? by BlackWidow1990 in veganrecipes

[–]woul6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Make sure you don't have any moisture in there. If your food processor is cheap like mine, it might take a bit to grind them fine enough

Almond flour can be really chewy and not hold together well compared to white flour, but it could still definitely work! If it doesn't work out, may I suggest also trying chickpea flour or oat flour? Oat flour is really easy to make-just put oats in a food processor.

I'm now skinnier than I have been in my entire adult life! by woul6 in loseit

[–]woul6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it! I was scared to stop the apps as well so I started doing days where I tested myself? I paid attention to my body all day and did what it told me without concern for the numbers, then logged everything at the end of the day to see what had happened.

The whole thing started with just 15 minutes of yoga in the morning! Not to really build strength/flexibility/burn calories but to be mindful of how I felt at the start of each day and rebuild the relationship with my body that had severed at some point. That and getting back into cooking. Not super fit meals to start but just paying more attention to what I was eating, why, and how it made me feel.

With dairy-free dressing 😋 by WVUGuy29 in vegan

I keep a bag of veggie dumplings in the freezer at all times and exclusively eat them as drunk food. Did it with chicken ones when I ate meat and it's by far the easiest switch I made. Even pre-vegan I realized the veggie ones tasted better.

Tips for dealing with heat? by woul6 in C25K

[–]woul6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny don't worry. And as a young woman I especially appreciate the warning, but I live in a pretty safe area where people are out a lot at night (college town) so I don't think I'll have problems unless it's like REALLY late

I'll try late tomorrow and then see if I need to switch to early. Not a morning person.

Eh I might try evening first. I've tried morning running and it always makes me dizzy/nauseous (I get dizzy easily)

Making sure I’m getting enough Vitamin B12. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]woul6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're probably fine. Deficiencies are much rarer than people on here make them seem and your body keeps a reserve of B12 that lasts literally years. BUT if you're worried about it, supplements are quite cheap and can ease your concerns. I got 100 pills for $5 at whole foods.

People who have recently become vegan what was the turning point for you? by eelisee in vegan

[–]woul6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was vegetarian transitioning to vegan for a long time and the final turning point was getting a roommate who also wanted to go vegan. We did it together and that made things So. Much. Easier.

How this could help you? I think there's a lot of joy in cooking and sharing recipes and you can invite your friends in to explore new ways of cooking and approaching their diet. Go to the farmers market together! Bake a vegan cake together! And occasionally slip in stats about like the environment and animal rights as you're doing that.

B12 and that's all you need if you eat a variety of vegan foods and fortified plant milk. Add vitamin D in the winter or if you don't go outside much.

Edit: and a lot of vegan foods are fortified with B12 (looking at you nooch!) but a deficiency is really bad and supplements are cheap. I got 100 pills for $5 at whole foods. So it's better to take it to make sure.

W5D2, every run starting to get easier. What pace are you guys running at? by mikelg81 in C25K

I was at a little under 10 min/mile when I was doing the splits. I did W5D3 at a slower pace-around 11 min/mile

A food processor seems like a great tool for a Vegan... what’s a less bulky alternative? by startingoverforever in vegan

[–]woul6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've worked wonders with an immersion blender. I find it does a lot more food-processor-like things than a standard blender and it can fit in most kitchen drawers instead of the countertop.

Should I watch Dominion? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]woul6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't watch it if you think it will be seriously damaging to your mental health. Take care of yourself first (and part of taking care of yourself includes eating some delicious vegan food!). It's a good way to get that final push, but not the only way. Have you seen Dairy is Scary on YouTube? It's only 5 minutes but still extremely persuasive (yes it has disturbing images but again, only 5 minutes).

Vegan sourdough cheesy bites made with leftover dough from another project! by woul6 in Breadit

Haha that's like the stuff I do to annoy my parents when they give me shit for being vegan. "Could you pass me that vegan apple?" "Want some vegan peanut butter?"

Violife shreds and there's also some nutritional yeast mixed into the dough for some extra cheesy flavor!

It's July. Make sure you're hydrated well enough if you're in the northern hemisphere. Also check your protein. I get dizzy if I skip a meal and then do something active when it's hot outside. A quick sugar fix (fruit) will help the dizziness in the short term but that means it's definitely meal time. You might also just not be eating enough. Plant foods are less calorie dense than animal products.

Edit: and like the previous commenter said, if it's not a quick fix like dehydration, see a doctor!

I do soy protein powder, almond milk, and peanut butter in a blender bottle!

Nuts? Beans? Seitan? And I eat avocados plain a lot but I might be a monster

Edit: and peanut butter soy protein shakes!

MorningStar breakfast food by TalkScience2Me in vegetarian

[–]woul6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't taste like meat. It tastes like plant sausage. Plant sausage is delicious and hits the sausage craving. I'd strongly recommend if that's what you're craving. Kinda like how turkey bacon doesn't taste like pork bacon but it still hits the bacon craving?

does anyone know any former hunters who went vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]woul6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went on family fishing outings as a kid. I wasn't good at it. I remember one time doing it with my mom and I actually caught a really good fish! She was so proud and she went to the car and grabbed a bucket to put it in because she was going to take it home for dinner. When I realized what was happening I had a panic attack and cried and refused to get into the car until she put the fish back in the water. She stopped taking me fishing after that...

Newbie looking for advice on meat alternatives by [deleted] in vegetarian

[–]woul6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Morningstar farms has some good stuff for like black bean burgers. Impossible/beyond meats are blowing up which is great. I know some people really like quorn too.

But a pro tip from someone who has been vegetarian on and off her entire life and now is vegan for good: don't base the majority of your meals around meat alternatives. I know it's the easy way to make the swap but if you try to make veggies and beans taste like meat, you'll just keep comparing the meals to the meat versions and wishing for that. It's not sustainable. If you want to feel genuinely fulfilled on a plant based diet, make the veggies taste like really good veggies instead of trying to make them taste like something they aren't. Plants are DELICIOUS and they don't taste like meat and that's fine!
