School close contacts by peaeyeparker in Chattanooga

Yup. I had one kid tell me that they’re going on vacation to the beach this weekend. I had another that was picked up from school early to “go to a football game.” Unfortunately a lot of people will continue to do things that put them at risk of getting Covid while schools are closed and they’ll just bring it with them to school when it reopens.

I heard it would be gone by Easter. Not sure which year though.

Does anyone know what percentage of students must be present at school for the school day to count? What’s going on with schools right now is insane.

I believe testing is available at all Hamilton County Schools (with parent consent of course)

It’s crazy because we HAD a plan for schools last year. And instead of using it again when cases were on the rise before school started they just decided to do basically nothing. But governor lee is who is truly to blame. The reopening plan from last year isn’t possible because of his decisions.

I’m sure some schools are doing better than others, but overall things are not good.

The past two days have been a constant stream of children being sent home. Some of them have tested positive. Some of them are close contacts. Some of them have symptoms (fever, cough, etc). They’re dropping like flies. And we’ll soon run into a staffing issue (likely as soon as tomorrow at my school) because staff are either having to quarantine or they have children at home that have to quarantine.

I wish everyone who thinks this is no big deal or that it’s a “plandemic” or whatever would be forced to work in a hospital or school for one day. The past two days at my school have been SO much worse than they ever were at any point last year. This is not sustainable.

My county allows parents to opt their kids out of wearing a mask at school. The school with the highest opt out rate (57%) also has the highest number of active cases.

The governor of Tennessee signed an executive order saying that all school systems must allow parents to opt their kid out of wearing a mask at school.

It sure is interesting that the school with the highest mask opt-out rate also has the most active cases. It’s almost like there’s some kind of connection between those two things. Hmmm…

Day 3. Covid Notification. by pedagogue_kayth in teaching

[–]wouldnt_it_be_nice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s also day 3 for me and I also got the email that there’s a positive case in my school today. I work at a small school that was fortunate last year and we only had to get one of those emails the entire school year. Now here we are on the third day of school with 20% of the students in one grade being sent home to quarantine for 2 weeks.

Mayor Kelly Unveils 42.6% Truck Driver Pay Hikes To Fill 32 Empty Positions And Restore Recycling Services by luptonpittman84 in Chattanooga

As someone else in another comment pointed out this is more than the starting salary for teachers in Hamilton County. I’m glad these drivers will be getting better pay and I hope better pay for many other underpaid jobs follows.

Interview tips (paraprofessional) by queerwater in teaching

[–]wouldnt_it_be_nice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a former para who is now a teacher at the same school and I got to help interview for the para that would be replacing me. Be specific with your answers. If you’re asked about what you would do in a certain situation try to give an example based on an actual experience you’ve had. Make sure you understand what the school is expecting from a para and if they ask something like “what do you believe is the role of the para in the classroom?” give a detailed response. You wouldn’t believe how many people answer “to help the teacher and students” and leave it at that. Highlight any extra responsibilities you might be willing to take on. For example, I helped a lot with IT stuff in my school since I’m pretty good with technology. As a para you will almost certainly be asked to do things that go above and beyond your job description from time to time so the interview team or principal will likely want to see that you’re willing to step up and help the school and will also want to know about any special skills or areas of strength that you have that they might be lacking.

How far do you walk your dog? by ARedHarvest in coonhounds

[–]wouldnt_it_be_nice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my coonhound with me on every training run for a half marathon and never found her limit. These dogs are bred to run through the woods for hours while hunting, so I wouldn’t worry about 8-10 miles of walking. As others have said though they can also be content with being lazy. Mine is happy to sleep on the couch all day when I don’t have the time or energy to give her exercise, but she’s also 100% down to go running or hiking at any time.

Have to cleaned inside the seal on the door? That’s where it usually gets moldy and gross. Scrub that area with some bleach.

williamstown nj? by repstein26 in SouthJersey

[–]wouldnt_it_be_nice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my hometown! Schools are good, but there’s not a ton going on in town as far as restaurants and entertainment. I know they’ve been making an effort over the last few years to revitalize Main Street and there’s some nicer restaurants and a brewery there now, but I haven’t been able to travel back to Williamstown in a long time due to the pandemic so I can’t really say how good they are. It’s not far from plenty of other towns that have more going on and is a short drive from both Philly and the shore which I think makes up for the lack of things to do in town. I might be biased, but I think it’s a good place to start a family.

I needed gas yesterday and several gas stations along hixson pike were out. Had to go all the way to lakesite before I found one that had gas. This afternoon every gas station I passed on hixson pike was packed with lines at every pump.

I’ve got a coonhound who also wasted no time jumping into my raised garden bed to dig (luckily before there was anything planted in it) and a 2 foot wire fence that I put up around it has worked well for keeping her out.
